A New Forest hotel beside the open heath

The Beaulieu Hotel is on Beaulieu Road in the New Forest, Hampshire (SO42 7YQ), beside the heath and the railway halt of the same name, a few miles from the village of Beaulieu and from Lyndhurst. It is run by New Forest Hotels, whose 2026 brochure lists a large function room, the Beaulieu Suite, and evening receptions of up to 250 guests.

We photographed Charlotte and Myles's wedding here on 12 November 2021, and their day is the one in this guide: a ceremony in a pale room with a chandelier, a walk across the heath in his naval uniform, confetti by the pines and a first dance under purple lights. A function room, a terrace and the forest outside

The hotel's wedding pages describe a hotel with a large function room, the Beaulieu Suite, and its brochure gives the numbers for day and evening guests. Listings add a landscaped garden and a terrace with views over the forest, and a Lavender package that includes private hire, a three-course meal and an overnight stay.

Packages, prices and numbers change from year to year, so ask the hotel for the current wedding brochure, what is included on your date, and how many guests the ceremony room holds.

Charlotte and Myles: a naval wedding, a walk across the heath and a first dance

Charlotte and Myles married on 12 November 2021. Myles wore his naval uniform, with a blue-trimmed collar and white belt, and Charlotte an off-the-shoulder white gown with a beaded belt. The ceremony was in a pale, high-ceilinged room with a chandelier and tall windows, and the photograph at the top of this page shows them on the heath, looking at each other with the forest behind.

In the first photograph Charlotte arrives on her father's arm and smiles at Myles; in the second the two of them kiss as guests in soft pastel dresses look on. Afterwards they walked out onto the open heath, Myles holding Charlotte's skirt as she crossed the grass, and further up the road, the two of them small against the pines and the sky.

Guests threw petals beneath tall pines, with Charlotte holding a bouquet of white flowers and her veil stretched behind her. Indoors, the two of them cut a white wedding cake, and later their first dance was under purple uplighting beneath a chandelier. The last photograph is a quiet moment outside after dark, lit by the hotel's windows.

Planning your photographs at the Beaulieu Hotel

Questions to put to the hotel, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Ceremony room: Charlotte and Myles married in a pale room with tall windows that filled it with daylight. Ask which room your date uses and how the chairs will be set.
2. The open heath: The heath gave wide, uncluttered portraits, and it is exposed. Ask where couples may walk, check for ponies and traffic on the road, and bring flat shoes for the grass.
3. Short autumn days: In November it was dark soon after tea, so we took the outdoor portraits early and kept the evening for the room. Ask us for a timeline that fits your sunset.
4. Confetti: Petals under the pines worked well. Ask the hotel what it allows, who clears it and where guests can stand.
5. Group photographs: We make as many as you wish, usually around 15, which take about 20 minutes. Choose a spot with room for everyone and a sheltered fallback, and ask someone who knows both families to gather people.
6. Uniforms and details: A naval uniform made its own portraits. If anyone in your wedding party wears a uniform or medals, tell us in advance so we can plan those photographs.

We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
