In short: Bright Sight is Cam and Beth, a photo and video duo based near Cardiff. This guide follows eight real weddings from Chester to the hills above Llangollen: Old Palace Chester and Carden Park near Chester, Inglewood Manor on the Wirral, Duddon Mill Farm near Tarporley, and Tyn Dwr Hall and Trevor Hall on the Welsh side of the border. Standard full-day packages start at £2,099 for photography, £2,099 for videography or £3,799 for both, with travel included and a £120 deposit to secure your date.

Weddings from Chester to the Dee valley, on both sides of the border

Chester sits almost on the Welsh border, and a wedding photographer for Chester is often asked about Wales in the same breath. Around Chester there is a Georgian house above the River Dee, a hotel with a gazebo in its grounds, a manor on the Wirral, a tipi on a Cheshire farm and two halls looking down the Dee valley at Llangollen. A guest list here often crosses the border twice in a day.

We have photographed and filmed eight weddings in this stretch between 2022 and 2024, and the stories below say which side of the border each one is on. Sparklers beside a suspension bridge in Chester, a groom held flat out in the air by his groomsmen, a bride on a rope swing and a dance in a tent lit by string lights are among them, because the best photographs of a day are often the ones nobody planned.

We work quietly around the day. You stay with your guests, we step in only when a little direction helps, and the photographs and film grow out of what really happens. Our wider Cheshire and North Wales guides cover the rest of each region, and this guide stays with the border.

01 / Chester, Cheshire / Chloe & John

Old Palace Chester: a dog in a tuxedo bib and sparklers beside the suspension bridge

Old Palace Chester is on Little St John Street in Chester, and the venue describes an exclusive-use Georgian manor house built in 1751 that overlooks The Groves and the River Dee. Chloe and John married here on 31 August 2022. The first photograph is the two of them holding hands and looking at each other, Chloe in a fitted gown and long veil with blush roses.

A bride and groom kiss in a ring of bridesmaids and men in dinner suits holding sparklers in front of a suspension bridge in Chester under a deep blue evening sky

A small grey dog on a lead sits on a path in a black and white tuxedo-style bib with a bow tie, and in a photograph of the house a bride stands on stone steps beneath a red-brick Georgian front with tall sash windows. In the evening the day goes out into the city, with the couple at the far end of a suspension bridge in black and white and then kissing in a ring of bridesmaids and men in dinner suits holding sparklers, with a bridge tower behind them at dusk.

A city wedding like this takes a plan for the walk, so ask the venue about timings and how guests will find their way back. Allow time for the sparklers to be lit and for everyone to gather.

02 / Near Chester, Cheshire / Emma & James

Carden Park: a white gazebo, a stone bridge and bare winter trees in a pond

Carden Park Hotel is on Broxton Road, near Chester, and the venue says it sits in 1,000 acres of Cheshire countryside, with a gazebo for outdoor weddings. Emma and James married here on 10 April 2022. The first photograph is the two of them kissing under a white gazebo hung with white flowers, with joined hands.

Elsewhere the two stand on a garden path, Emma in a strapless lace gown with white roses and James in a navy suit and tweed waistcoat, and cross a small stone bridge looking at each other, with bare trees and open fields beyond. On a low arched red-stone bridge over a still pond among bare winter trees, their reflection is in the water.

The black and white photograph below is of the two holding hands beneath the gazebo with rows of empty wooden chairs behind them. A hotel with this much land makes it easy to give the couple portraits their own time, so ask which areas are open on your date and where guests wait.

03 / Ledsham, South Wirral, Cheshire / Gabi & Mikey

Inglewood Manor: a buttonhole in an arched doorway, a spin beneath the wisteria and a dip at the door

Inglewood Manor is at Ledsham on the South Wirral, and the venue describes a Grade II listed Edwardian manor house built in 1915, set in 38 acres of grounds and offered for exclusive use. Gabi and Mikey married here on 16 April 2022. The first photograph is in black and white: two men in dark suits in an arched stone doorway beneath leaded windows, one of them pinning on a buttonhole.

Outside, a bride holding a pink and cream bouquet kisses her groom beside a pink sandstone wall under a wisteria pergola, and later she spins her skirt beneath the wooden-beam pergola with sandstone pillars as Mikey watches. The two kiss outdoors with their arms around each other as the low sun glows behind them.

The last photograph is another in black and white: Mikey dips Gabi as her dress swirls, seen through an arched doorway with leaded windows. A manor like this gives the day arches and pergolas to frame the portraits, so ask when the wisteria will be in flower on your date.

04 / Near Tarporley, Cheshire / Rebecca & Sam

Duddon Mill Farm: champagne in pyjamas, a groom held flat in the air and dancing in a tent

Duddon Mill Farm is on Mill Lane near Tarporley, and the venue describes itself as a wedding and events venue on 65 acres of mixed farmland, well suited to tipi and marquee weddings. Rebecca and Sam married here on 3 August 2024. The morning begins with a group of women in pyjama sets raising champagne glasses on a stone terrace in front of two canvas tipis.

Rebecca and Sam hold each other on a lawn beneath the hanging branches of a willow, and on another lawn a laughing Sam in a white shirt and linen trousers is held flat out in the air by five groomsmen. In the tent, hung with string lights and a swag of white fabric, the two dance forehead to forehead, and guests sing and dance in a blur of movement under warm string lights.

The last photograph is a kiss in the low evening sun, Sam in a white shirt and tan braces with Rebecca’s hand on his cheek. A farm wedding rewards a plan for the evening: ask how the lighting works after dark, and where guests can stand for air between dances.

05 / Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales / Emma & Andy

Tyn Dwr Hall: a rope swing, a long staircase and a lift in front of the half-timbered hall

Tyn Dwr Hall is on Tyn Dwr Road in Llangollen, in Denbighshire on the Welsh side of the border. We have photographed three weddings here, and this story follows Emma and Andy, who married on 24 June 2023. The first photograph is the two of them on a rope swing in the garden, Emma in a lace gown with a very long train and Andy close beside her.

A bride in a lace gown with a very long train sits on a rope swing in the garden while her groom in a dark suit sits close beside her with his forehead against hers, a whitewashed cottage and a huge old tree trunk behind them at Tyn Dwr Hall

A bride and groom walk hand in hand, both laughing, through a shower of confetti between guests, with a half-timbered brick building behind them
A bride in a lace gown with a very long train and a groom stand face to face on a wooden footbridge with rope handrails under a tree in white blossom

Earlier, a bride walks down a wooden staircase on her father’s arm under a chandelier, and the two walk hand in hand, both laughing, through a shower of confetti between guests with a half-timbered brick building behind them. They stand face to face on a wooden footbridge with rope handrails, and Andy lifts a laughing Emma in his arms in front of the half-timbered brick hall.

The last photograph is Emma with seven friends in colourful dresses on the lawn, laughing in front of a glass wall that reflects the garden. A hall with this much garden gives you a lot of places for the whole party to be photographed, so ask which spaces are open to you and how many guests each holds.

06 / Trevor, near Llangollen, Wales / Sian & Ben

Trevor Hall: a blue bench under a wisteria, an urn terrace and the hills beyond

Trevor Hall is near Llangollen, on the Welsh side of the border, and Sian and Ben married here on 22 June 2022. The portrait at the top of this guide is the two of them in front of a green door set in an old brick arch among ivy, Ben kissing Sian’s cheek, and the photographs here are the quieter ones that surround it.

A bride in a white robe has her hair styled by a woman beside a window with a curtain while a baby in a pink top holds a teddy bear beside her chair
A bride and groom kiss on a curved blue-painted wooden bench beneath a twisted wisteria branch
A bride in a long veil and a groom hold hands between two rusted urns on a terrace with a wooded hill beyond
A bride in a veil and a groom in a waistcoat stand forehead to forehead in front of a fence and long grass with a wooded hill behind

In the morning Sian sits in a white robe having her hair styled by a woman while a baby in a pink top holds a teddy bear beside her chair. Later the two kiss on a curved blue-painted wooden bench beneath a twisted wisteria branch, and stand holding hands on a terrace with two rusted urns, a wooded hill beyond.

In the long grass of a field the two stand forehead to forehead in front of a fence, and in the last photograph Sian stands on the lawn with two friends, one in a spotted dress and sunglasses and one in a rust satin dress, with the hills behind. A hall with views like these is a reason to keep a few minutes of the afternoon free, so ask the venue where the best view is and walk there together.

Planning a wedding around Chester and the Welsh border

A city venue and a country venue

Old Palace Chester is a Georgian house in the city, and its wedding included sparklers beside the suspension bridge over the Dee. A day like that asks you to think about getting guests across town in the evening and where the wedding party can stand for photographs without blocking a path, so share the plan with the venue early.

Hotel grounds, gazebos and bridges

Carden Park has 1,000 acres of grounds, and Emma and James had a gazebo, a stone bridge and a still pond to choose from. If you like the idea of a day with several places to stand, ask the venue which spaces are available on your date and how far guests will be from drinks while you are out.

Tipis, tents and farm weddings

Rebecca and Sam’s tipis at Duddon Mill Farm gave the day a long, easy shape, from champagne on a stone terrace to dancing in a tent lit with string lights. Ask the venue how the ground, the lighting and the toilets work in a tent, and what the wet-weather plan is.

Hills, halls and the Dee valley

Tyn Dwr Hall and Trevor Hall both look across the Dee valley, and both made the most of it: a rope swing and a footbridge at one, an urn terrace and a blue bench beneath a wisteria at the other. On the hills the weather can turn quickly, so agree an indoor alternative and keep a few umbrellas for guests.

Crossing the border

If your ceremony is in England and your reception is in Wales, or the other way round, share every address and how long guests will take to travel between them, and ask your venues whether guests can stay on site or nearby.

How we travel to you

Chester and the Welsh border are more than two hours from our base near Cardiff, so we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it. That means traffic on the morning cannot affect your day, and travel across England and Wales is included in our standard full-day packages.

Before you enquire: write down every address your day will use, from where you get ready to where guests sleep, and note which are in England and which in Wales. Send it with your date and venue and we can talk through the order of the day.

For the rest of the region, see our Cheshire and North Wales guides, and for the neighbouring areas our Shropshire and Liverpool guides.

Hearing the day again: wedding films around Chester

A photograph keeps a face. A film keeps the voice that goes with it: the vows on a hillside, a toast in a tent, the sound of a hall full of people when the dancing starts. We film the way we photograph, from the edge of your day and without asking you to repeat anything for the camera.

A highlight follows your day in the order it happened, so watching it feels like the day again rather than a trailer for it.

Our full-day video packages include a 7 to 10 minute highlight and a 40+ minute documentary film. Explore the wedding videography package for current inclusions, or browse our wedding films for more celebrations.

One team for the photographs and the film from Chester to Llangollen

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Booking photography and film with the same team means one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for your venue and one plan for the couple portraits. Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together since 2016, so a city house, a tipi on a farm and a hall above a valley are familiar ground.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages, so a venue near Chester and one near Llangollen are priced the same way. If your day uses more than one location or has an unusual timetable, tell us the plan and we will confirm how it fits.

How is this different from your Cheshire and North Wales guides?

Our Cheshire guide covers the whole county and our North Wales guide covers the region. This guide is about the border, where a wedding in Chester and one in Llangollen share a guest list, with a closer look at six venues on either side.
