A family-run barn venue above the Lancashire countryside

Beeston Manor is on Quaker Brook Lane in Hoghton, near Preston in Lancashire (PR5 0RA). The venue says the land was once a working family farm called Higher Barn Farm, that the Bickerstaffe family began restoring the sandstone barn in 1985, and that it began hosting weddings in 2008. It describes oak beams, locally quarried pink sandstone and views of the Lancashire countryside.

We photographed and filmed Emma and Sean's wedding here on 8 May 2022. This page follows their day in four photographs. Our Liverpool guide and Manchester guide both show Beeston Manor as a Lancashire option beyond the cities, and here we stay with the venue itself. What we say about the venue comes from its own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Beeston Manor. The venue added The Meadows in 2026, after Emma and Sean's wedding, so ask it what a booking includes today.

The Oakland Room, the Woodland and the Garden Room

The venue says everything happens within its grounds. The ceremony takes place in the Oakland Room, which it describes as having warm timber tones and natural light. Guests then gather outside for drinks looking over the countryside, the wedding breakfast is in the Woodland, a barn room with a rustic character, and in the evening the barn becomes the dance floor. The morning after, the venue says guests gather for breakfast in the Garden Room.

The venue also lists intimate weddings and a twilight wedding package, and says the wedding comes with exclusive use of the venue. It does not state guest numbers or finish times on the pages we read, so ask for those in writing. We have not matched the rooms in Emma and Sean's photographs to the venue's current room names, so ask for a viewing of the ceremony room.

Emma and Sean: a gown above the aisle, a veil in the breeze and a laughing sunset

Emma and Sean married at Beeston Manor on 8 May 2022. The photograph at the top of this page is from their evening portraits: Emma in an off-the-shoulder gown and a veil laughs with her whole face while Sean, in a navy suit, kisses her cheek, against a pink and grey sky with the countryside dark behind them.

Earlier, in the ceremony room, the wedding gown hangs from an iron candle chandelier over the aisle, with white drapes across the ceiling, fairy lights behind and rows of chairs tied with white sashes. A woman in a white robe walks up the aisle towards it with her hand resting on the skirt.

Outside, in front of a tall wall of grey metal barn doors, Emma's long lace-edged veil lifts in the wind as she and Sean hold hands and smile at each other, Sean in a navy suit and Emma holding a small white bouquet.

Later, under strings of fairy lights and beside tall windows looking out over the fields, Emma and Sean cut a three-tier cake with bare sides and white flowers on a stand that reads Mr and Mrs, Emma open-mouthed and laughing and Sean smiling down at the knife, with guests watching behind them and light-up letters at the edge of the room.

Thirteen manor bedrooms and The Meadows suites

The venue says the main Manor House has thirteen en-suite bedrooms, with check-in from 3pm and check-out by 10am, and a full English breakfast served between 8am and 9.30am. The Dove Suite is its bridal suite, complimentary for the wedding couple, with a super king bed, a private balcony terrace and a private hot tub.

The venue also describes The Meadows, which it says opened in March 2026 with five suites that have private hot tubs. It says three of them, Robin, Skylark and Barn Owl, are included for the couple's party the night before the wedding, and that The Nest, the bridal lounge, and The Den, a room in the Manor for the groom and groomsmen, are used for getting ready. These are newer than Emma and Sean's wedding, so ask the venue what is included in a booking today, and when each space opens, so we can plan the morning around where each of you is.

Planning your photographs at Beeston Manor

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Timing: The venue's pages we read do not give ceremony or finish times, so ask for them in writing. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
  2. Evening light: Emma and Sean married in May, and their portraits in this guide came from the evening, with the sky turning pink over the fields. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you before the day.
  3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask the venue where it suggests standing everyone, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.
  6. Breeze: Emma's veil caught the wind in front of the barn doors. If you are wearing a long veil, expect it to move, and plan a few relaxed minutes outside for it.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a restored barn, a chandelier-lit ceremony room and open Lancashire countryside is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
