A Palladian mansion in 56 acres of parkland

Botleys Mansion is in Chertsey, Surrey. The venue's own page describes a historic Palladian, pale-stone Georgian house set in 56 acres of parkland, reached by a private drive and about 30 minutes from London. The photographs here show the pale stone front, a curved stone staircase, a terrace with open glazed doors and a glass-roofed hall with a red-carpeted staircase.

We photographed and filmed one wedding here: Chai and Ross on 31 March 2024. It is the one wedding in this guide, so every photograph below is from that day.

Chai and Ross: a glass roof, a stone staircase and a terrace kiss

Chai and Ross married on 31 March 2024. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them kissing on the curved stone staircase at the front of the house, Ross in dark dress uniform and a peaked cap. Inside, Chai steps across the foot of a red-carpeted staircase beneath a glass roof and a crystal chandelier.

Outside the front of the house, Chai and Ross stand with three guests in front of the stone steps and lanterns. Through a pair of open glazed doors, the two of them kiss on the terrace, with flowers on either side and parkland stretching out behind.

Inside again, in a tall room with pale walls and a wooden floor, Ross kneels beside a woman in a red dress and an older woman in pink while guests watch from behind.

The Green Room, the Atrium and the Mansion Lawn

The venue's pages name the Green Room, an indoor ceremony room with classical plasterwork, which it says holds up to 131. The Atrium is a glass-roofed hall with a central staircase, used for ceremonies, the wedding breakfast and the evening, and the venue lists it at up to 360 seated and up to 500 for an evening reception. The Entrance Hall, the Library and the Morning Room are named for drinks, and the venue says it has multiple licensed spaces for ceremonies indoors and out.

The Mansion Lawn is listed as licensed for outdoor ceremonies, with a gazebo as the centrepiece, and the venue's home page says outdoor ceremonies run from April to September at an additional charge. The Fountain, the lawns and the gardens are named for drinks, with the house as the backdrop. The venue says it gives you exclusive use from 11am for 24 hours, with no other wedding on the same day.

Twelve bedrooms and a getting ready room

The venue lists twelve bedrooms: the Botleys Suite, a four-poster room for the couple, and eleven more for guests. It also lists a Getting Ready Room, available from 9am, with natural light and four make-up stations, which it says is included in the price. Ask the venue exactly which rooms come with your booking and when you can use them.

Planning your photographs at Botleys Mansion

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Where you marry: the Green Room, the Atrium or the Mansion Lawn. Tell us your choice so we can arrange the morning around it, and ask the venue what applies to outdoor ceremonies on your date.
2. Getting ready: ask when the Getting Ready Room and your bedroom are yours on the morning, since that is where the first photographs happen.
3. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The Atrium and the Green Room give you indoor choices.
4. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The stone steps at the front of the house give you a handsome, roomy place for them.
5. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The curved staircase, the terrace and the parkland give you very different backdrops. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a Palladian house with a grand staircase, a glass-roofed hall and parkland is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
