Buxted Park Hotel is at Buxted, near Uckfield in East Sussex (TN22 4AY). The hotel is run by Handpicked Hotels, and East Sussex County Council's register of ceremony venues describes it as a country estate and historic hotel set in parkland, with gardens, woodland and accommodation.

We photographed and filmed one wedding here: Bethany and Callum on 21 April 2022. This page follows their day in photographs. Three ceremony rooms indoors and a choice of settings outside

The venue's wedding pages list the Library, the Orangery and the Coat of Arms as ceremony spaces. Outdoors, it offers the Orangery lawn or the Orangery pond as settings. The venue says the Orangery is available on an exclusive-use basis, so ask whether that applies to your date.

East Sussex County Council's register lists the hotel with three indoor and three outdoor licensed ceremony spaces, which is more than the venue's own page names, so ask the venue which ones are on offer for your date and how many guests each one holds.

The venue's pages do not give finishing times or the order of the day, so ask for them in writing. We are happy to plan around whatever you agree.

Bethany and Callum: petals, a pond and a chandelier

Bethany and Callum married at Buxted Park Hotel on 21 April 2022, and we photographed and filmed the day. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Callum in a grey check suit and Bethany in a white gown with a bouquet of cream roses, nose to nose beneath a pink rhododendron in flower.

The photographs on this page were picked by ChatGPT from their gallery, not by Cam.

After the ceremony the two of them walk hand in hand through a shower of petals, beside a stone church, with their guests smiling behind them on a bright spring day.

The house is a pale, classical building, and the portraits use it. In one, the two of them kiss on a flight of stone steps, with a long pond in front of them that doubles the house in its reflection. In another they walk arm in arm across a gravel lawn with the whole front of the house behind them.

Later the light drops low and warm, and they stand nose to nose with an old building softly blurred behind them.

Indoors, the wedding breakfast room has tall windows with white curtains and crystal chandeliers over long tables. During the speeches Bethany laughs with a hand on her chest while Callum throws his head back beside her as a guest reads from his notes.

The last photograph is a kiss on a white balcony, framed by pillars and the crystal of a chandelier above.

Planning your photographs at Buxted Park Hotel

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Choosing the ceremony space: The venue lists the Library, the Orangery and the Coat of Arms, with outdoor settings by the Orangery lawn or pond. Ask which are available on your date and when you need to choose, so we can plan the morning and the portraits around it.
2. The house and the pond: In Bethany and Callum's photographs the front of the house, the stone steps and the pond do a lot of the work. Ask the venue where guests may and may not walk, and tell us if there is somewhere in the grounds that matters to you.
3. Timing: The venue's pages do not give finishing times, so ask for the timings of your date in writing. Tell us once you have agreed them and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
4. Rain: A wet day would move portraits indoors. The wedding breakfast room has tall windows and chandeliers, so ask the venue which rooms are free between the ceremony and dinner and we will plan from there.
5. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
6. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a country house with a pond, a lawn and a room of chandeliers is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
