Carlton Towers is at Carlton, near Selby in North Yorkshire (DN14 9LZ). The venue's wedding page says the wedding takes place in its private home and estate grounds, and the photographs show a castellated stone house with arched windows, a gravel forecourt, chandeliered rooms and a wall of ivy.

Yukki and Leslie: chandeliers, umbrellas and sparklers

Yukki and Leslie married on 5 October 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them walking across the gravel through a shower of confetti, each with an umbrella, the stone house behind them. Earlier in the day Leslie stands beside a tall window with heavy patterned curtains, adjusting his jacket, and the ceremony takes place beneath ornate chandeliers, with the two of them holding hands on a white aisle runner.

A long table is laid for the celebration in a high room with more chandeliers, a timber ceiling and tall windows.

Outside, the two of them sit among pink and white roses with the arched windows of the house behind them, and Leslie lifts Yukki off the ground in front of a wall of red and green ivy.

The night ends outside, with Yukki and Leslie kissing between two lines of guests holding sparklers.

The State Rooms, the walled garden vineyard and the grounds

The venue's pages mention its State Rooms and the estate grounds, and describe a walled garden vineyard, planted in the estate's walled garden, that it suggests for couple portraits, drinks receptions or an intimate outdoor ceremony. The venue offers exclusive use of the house.

The pages do not give capacities for the ceremony, dining or evening, and they do not mention a ceremony licence, so ask the venue for both in writing. The venue's FAQ page also says there is no lift, with steps up to the main entrance and up to the bedrooms, which is worth knowing if anyone in your party needs step-free access.

Bedrooms in the house, the Stapleton rooms and two cottages

The venue lists 16 guest bedrooms in the main house, most named after past and present members of the family. There are also four en-suite double Stapleton rooms and two self-catering Parkgate Cottages, each a short walk from the house along a path through the estate. Check-in and check-out times are not on the venue's pages, so ask when you enquire. For photographs, a room in the house or on the estate means getting ready close to where the day happens.

Planning your photographs at Carlton Towers

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Where the ceremony is: one of the State Rooms, the walled garden vineyard or elsewhere on the estate. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
2. Getting ready: ask which bedrooms are yours on the morning and from what time, since that is where the first photographs happen.
3. Rain: the forecourt and the grounds are lovely in good weather, so agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day.
4. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The gravel in front of the house gives you room.
5. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The ivy wall, the roses, the forecourt and the walled garden vineyard give you very different backdrops. In October, we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
