A hotel in woodland with views down to the coast

Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel is near Bridgend in South Wales. The venue describes its setting as rolling country house gardens, a historic woodland backdrop and views down to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. It is run by The Town and Country Collective, and the venue's own wedding pages are where the facts below come from.

We have photographed and filmed weddings here in 2021, 2023 and 2026. Laura and Jordan's day on 2 August 2026 is the one told in photographs on this page, with the red-brick, gabled front of the hotel opening it. Our Bridgend guide mentions the hotel alongside other venues in the county; here we stay with the hotel itself. What we say about the rooms and the grounds comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

The Folly, the Hendre and the gardens

The venue's ceremony space is the Folly, which it describes as a stylish, contemporary, floor-to-ceiling glass pergola with fully glazed sliding doors and a fully retractable roof, tucked away in the hotel's secret garden. The celebration happens in the Hendre, which the venue says comes with an exclusive lounge terrace. The venue does not list guest numbers for either space on its main wedding page, so ask for current capacities in writing when you enquire.

Outside, the grounds are rolling gardens with a woodland backdrop, and the venue says you can see down to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. In Laura and Jordan's photographs the grounds give a lot to work with: a flight of steps between tall grasses in front of the hotel, a cobbled path beside a white-painted outbuilding, and a field of long golden grass at the edge of the trees.

02 / August 2026 / Laura and Jordan

Laura and Jordan: a bright bouquet, a glass wall and confetti on the cobbles

Laura and Jordan married at Coed-y-Mwstwr on 2 August 2026. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Laura in a lace gown and veil, Jordan in a waistcoat, walking down a flight of steps between tall golden grasses with the gabled red-brick hotel behind them.

The morning starts quietly. A make-up artist in a white top touches Laura's lips as she sits in a floral pyjama shirt in a panelled room with wall lights and arched mirrors, and a flat lay on stone gathers the invitation, white block-heeled sandals, perfume, a blue ring box and pearls. Later Laura stands by a tall sash window in her veil, looking down at a bouquet of pink, red and yellow flowers.

At the register, Laura and Jordan sit at a table with the bouquet between them, a glass wall and the red brick of the hotel behind. Afterwards they walk out hand in hand along a cobbled path through a shower of confetti, Jordan laughing in a beige waistcoat suit, with guests on both sides and a white-painted outbuilding behind.

In the evening light the two of them stand in a field of long golden grass at the edge of the woodland.

Rooms in the hotel and the Coach House

The venue's accommodation page lists rooms in the original part of the hotel and in the Coach House: Standard Double, Executive Double, Standard Twin, Junior Suite and Suite rooms, plus Coach House Standard, Executive and Accessible Double rooms. It says views across the Welsh countryside and a private car park come with a stay. It does not give a total number of bedrooms, so ask which rooms come with your booking.

For photographs, getting ready on site means the make-up, the dress and the flowers are a short walk from the ceremony, as Laura's morning shows. Ask the venue when you can have your rooms, so we can plan the morning around it.

Sophie and Stuart’s highlight film retells their June 2021 wedding at Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel, from the first moments of the day to the evening. This page has no photographs of their day, so the film is where you can see and hear how a wedding here looks, then ask the venue which of its spaces suit your numbers.

Planning your photographs at Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Ceremony space: The Folly is the venue's glass-walled ceremony space. Tell us which ceremony option you choose so we can plan the morning around it, and ask the venue about numbers and the weather.
  2. Getting ready: Ask which rooms come with your booking and when you can have them. A short walk between your room and the ceremony keeps the morning calm.
  3. Rain: Agree a sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day, and we settle it together on the day.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The gardens, the woodland edge and the steps in front of the hotel give you very different backdrops.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a hotel with a glass pergola, a cobbled path and woodland gardens is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
