A Grade II listed hall on a private estate

Colshaw Hall is in Over Peover, a village just outside Knutsford in Cheshire, within easy reach of Wilmslow, Chester, Manchester and Macclesfield. The venue describes a Grade II listed hall on a private country estate, owned by the Irlam family, with a Ceremony Room, the Peel Suite, the Hall itself, the grounds, a Bridal Lodge, a dressing room and eco lodges in the woods.

We have worked on two weddings here in spring 2024: Hannah and Rob on 28 March, photographed and filmed, and Sam and Beth in April, on film. The hall, the Ceremony Room and the Peel Suite

The venue names a Ceremony Room and the Peel Suite as its two main wedding spaces, alongside the Hall itself and the grounds, and offers online tours with the owner. It also has a Bridal Lodge for getting ready the night before, a dressing room and a space called the Den. The estate is exclusive to your wedding, and the venue's main page does not list capacities, so ask for current numbers in writing.

In Hannah and Rob's photographs the Hall is a house of tall leaded windows, gilt mirrors and a carpeted staircase, with a timbered doorway that makes a frame for the confetti.

Hannah and Rob married at Colshaw Hall on 28 March 2024. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Rob in a black dinner suit kissing Hannah, in a strapless gown and veil, as they sit together beside a tall window with a bouquet of white roses in her lap.

The morning is bright and noisy. Hannah, in a white robe, sits on a cream sofa beside a grand piano with her bridesmaids in sage green satin robes, all of them raising their glasses. Later she comes down a carpeted staircase beside tall leaded windows and a gilt mirror, holding a bouquet of white flowers, her veil and train spilling behind her.

After the ceremony Hannah and Rob walk out hand in hand from a timber-beamed doorway through a flurry of confetti, Hannah with an arm in the air and a bouquet in her hand, and guests reaching in on both sides. Back in the window light, Rob kisses Hannah in her veil beside a tall window with panelled shutters.

A Bridal Lodge and eco lodges in the woods

The venue describes a Bridal Lodge, a space for getting ready, and eco lodges tucked away in the woods. Its main page does not give room numbers, so ask what is included and how many guests can stay.

For photographs, a lodge on the estate means a calm morning, with the dress, the flowers and the hair and make-up close to the ceremony. Tell us your rooms and timings and we will plan the morning around them.

Planning your photographs at Colshaw Hall

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Ceremony: The dedicated Ceremony Room. Tell us your timings so we can plan the morning around it.
2. Getting ready: The Bridal Lodge and the dressing room are the venue's spaces for getting ready. Ask when you can use them.
3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day, and we settle it together on the day.
4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
5. Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The staircase, the tall windows and the grounds give you very different backdrops.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a listed hall with a staircase, a timbered ceremony room and woodland lodges is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
