A restored red-brick barn venue in Worcestershire

Curradine Barns is on Church Lane in Shrawley, Worcestershire (WR6 6TS). The venue describes an authentic 19th-century red-brick barn venue, once a working farm and now restored, with 150 seated for dining, a farmhouse for guests and a private cottage for the couple's wedding night. Its own page says all events have exclusive use of the venue.

We photographed and filmed Amy and Matthew's wedding here on 21 April 2023. The highlight film further down this page is from their day. The two photographs below are from it too, and neither shows the couple, so they are about the place: the dance floor and a table setting.

Amy and Matthew: a table setting and a dance floor under a chandelier

Amy and Matthew married on 21 April 2023, and we photographed and filmed their day. The highlight film further down this page is from it. These are two photographs of their wedding that are on this site.

The first is a place setting for Table Four. A card carries Amy and Matthew's names and the date among wildflowers, eucalyptus, dried grasses and glasses, with boxed games stacked low in the middle of the arrangement. Behind it, tall letters made of lit bulbs glow against the warm room.

The second is from the evening. Looking down from above, guests dance on a dark floor under a very large black iron chandelier. The brick walls are lit red, the timber roof trusses rise above, and a DJ booth stands at the far end. The exposed brick and the chandelier do most of the work in a room like this.

More photographs show the barn yard. The photograph at the top of this page has Matthew kissing Amy's cheek in low golden sun as she laughs, a dark timber barn behind them. Seen from behind, they walk hand in hand across the paved yard towards the barn's open doors. Inside, light through the slatted doors throws stripes across the floor around their silhouettes.

02 / The spaces / From the venue's own pages

The Barley Barn, the Granary Barn and the Garden Gazebo

The venue's FAQ page gives ceremony numbers of 118 in the Granary Barn and the Garden Gazebo and 150 in the Barley Barn, 150 for a sit-down meal and 155 for the evening. It names the Granary Barn as the place for evening dancing and the courtyard for evening food outside, and its home page also lists the Curradine Cantina and a private Midsummer Cottage.

The pages do not say whether the venue holds its own ceremony licence. They tell couples to book the registrar through Worcester Registry Office, or to marry at St Mary's Church in Shrawley, which the venue puts at 0.1 miles away. The FAQ page gives last orders at 11.15pm, music winding down at 11.30pm and the venue closing at midnight, so plan your evening timings around that. Ask the venue for current details.

03 / Staying at Curradine Barns / From the venue's own pages

Farmhouse rooms and a honeymoon cottage

The venue's FAQ page lists 10 bedrooms plus a honeymoon suite for up to 26 people, including one fully accessible bedroom, while its home page says the farmhouse sleeps up to 24 guests, so confirm the numbers with the venue. Midsummer Cottage is offered as a retreat for the couple's wedding night, and the page mentions a breakfast together the next morning. Ask which rooms come with your booking and when you can have them.

Planning your photographs at Curradine Barns

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. The ceremony: the venue lists three ceremony spaces but does not say it holds its own licence, so find out first whether you are using the registry office route or the church in Shrawley. Tell us the times and addresses so we can plan the morning and the first photographs around them.
  2. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask someone who knows everyone to round people up, and ask the venue which part of the courtyard or gardens suits a big group.
  3. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The courtyard, the gazebo and the red-brick barn walls give you several backdrops to choose from.
  4. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The barns and the Cantina are the indoor spaces the venue lists.
  5. The evening: the venue's closing times are fixed, so tell us when you want the first dance and any speeches or send-off, and we can plan around the 11.30pm music cut-off.
