In short: Bright Sight is Cam and Beth, a photo and video duo based near Cardiff. This page is about a wedding at De Vere Latimer Estate near Chesham in Buckinghamshire, which we photographed and filmed in September 2021. Standard full-day packages start at £2,099 for photography, £2,099 for videography or £3,799 for both, with travel included and a £120 deposit to secure your date.

A red-brick country house above the Chess Valley

De Vere Latimer Estate is on Church Lane at Latimer, near Chesham in Buckinghamshire (HP5 1UG). The venue describes 30 acres of grounds with formal gardens and views over the Chess Valley, and its wedding page names Latimer House as the home of its main wedding space, the Cavendish Suite.

We photographed and filmed Jen and Kev's wedding here on 16 September 2021, so this page is told in their photographs, and the highlight film plays further down the page. Our Buckinghamshire guide shows more weddings in the county, and here we stay with the house and the couple. What we say about the rooms comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the pictures comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore De Vere Latimer Estate. This wedding was in mid-September, so ask the venue how the house and grounds look in other seasons.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

A mansion with a main wedding suite, formal gardens and valley views

The venue's wedding page names the Cavendish Suite in Latimer House as its main wedding space, describes it as suited to celebrations of up to 200 guests, and says it has its own bar. The venue says it is licensed for civil ceremonies. The house itself is described as a restored English country manor, and the venue says the first house on the site was recorded in 1194 and that during the Second World War it served as a secret military intelligence centre.

The wedding page does not give separate figures for a ceremony, a seated meal or evening guests, and it does not say whether the estate can be hired exclusively, so ask for each in writing. If you want the ceremony and the meal under one roof, ask whether the Cavendish Suite can do both on your date.

02 / September 2021 / Jen and Kev

Jen and Kev: confetti, a red-brick house, golden light over the hills and a dance floor

Jen and Kev married on 16 September 2021, in a church rather than in one of the venue's rooms, and then came to the house. The photograph at the top of this page shows the confetti: the two of them laughing as it falls around them, Kev in a dark tuxedo and bow tie and Jen in a veil, with guests on both sides. The highlight film plays further down the page.

At the house they cross the lawn hand in hand, Kev a step ahead, with the red-brick front and its stone-framed windows rising behind them under a cloudy sky. Inside, they stop in front of a tall stained glass window. Jen holds her bouquet of orange, red and white flowers and the two of them stand close, smiling at each other.

Seen from behind, a groom in a dark suit leads a bride in a long white gown by the hand across the lawn towards the red-brick front of the house under a cloudy sky

The meal was in a room with chandeliers, round tables and white blossom trees as centrepieces. The venue's page does not tie the photograph to a named room, so ask which of its spaces suits your numbers.

Later the evening light turns golden. Jen and Kev walk hand in hand across a grassy hilltop, both laughing, and in the next picture they walk side by side on a slope, Jen smiling and Kev glancing down at her.

With wooded hills behind them, Kev kisses Jen on the forehead.

Later still, in a panelled room, Jen dances with a man in a navy suit, both of them smiling, while guests look on behind them.

03 / Staying at the estate / From the venue's own description

Bedrooms in the mansion, a pool and two bars

The venue describes rooms and suites in the historic mansion house, many with views over the Chiltern Hills, and its site also lists a gym and indoor swimming pool, the 1838 Restaurant & Bar and the Huntley Bar & Library. It does not give a bedroom count on the pages we read, so ask how many of your guests it can sleep, which rooms come with your date and what the arrangements are for the morning after.

For the film and photographs, ask which rooms you can use for getting ready and when they open, so we can plan the morning around where each of you is.

Planning your film and photographs at De Vere Latimer Estate

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Ceremony place: Jen and Kev married in a church and came to the house afterwards. The venue says it is licensed for civil ceremonies, so ask which space it would use for yours. If your ceremony is somewhere else, tell us the journey and the timings so we can plan the day around the move.
  2. Timing: The venue's wedding page does not give finishing times, so ask for the timings of your date in writing. Tell us once you have agreed them and we will plan the portrait walk and the evening around the light.
  3. Garden portraits: The lawn above the valley gave this couple their golden-hour portraits. Ask the venue which parts of the grounds are open to you and whether any are closed to guests.
  4. Rain: Parts of their afternoon were grey, and the tall stained glass window inside the house gave them a portrait that did not need the sun. Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day, and we settle it together on the day.
  5. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  6. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a church ceremony followed by a country house, a lawn for the evening light and a dance floor is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
