Panoramic windows and a terrace above the sea

The hotel offers two ways to marry. Indoor ceremonies take place beside panoramic windows that frame Porthminster Beach, and open-air celebrations take place on the terrace. It describes private oceanfront spaces for the rest of the day, and says its Classic package includes exclusive use of its event spaces.

The hotel also lists its Harbour Kitchen, Bar and Terrace, and the beach is steps away, so a short walk is easy to fit in between the other parts of the day.

Sarah-Jayne and Rob: an aisle beside the sea and a walk above the water

Sarah-Jayne and Rob married at Harbour Hotel St Ives on 10 August 2022. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Sarah-Jayne, with a bouquet of white flowers, and Rob, in a blue check suit, hold each other beside a railing with the town behind them.

Sarah-Jayne walks down the aisle on her father's arm in a bright room, Rob waiting in his blue check suit, petals strewn along the floor.

During the speeches at the banquet table, Sarah-Jayne speaks to the room and gently touches Rob's chin, a quiet gesture in a busy moment.

Outside, the setting is all sea. In one photograph the sun lights a broad beach and the sea beyond it, and in another a drone looks straight down at turquoise water lapping a golden beach, swimmers and boats dotted along the sand.

Later, as the light drops, Sarah-Jayne and Rob walk away together along a path above the sea, her veil trailing behind her.

Planning your photographs at Harbour Hotel St Ives

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Where the ceremony happens: The hotel offers an indoor ceremony with panoramic windows and an open-air ceremony on the terrace. Decide with the hotel which suits your numbers and the weather, and tell us so we can arrange the morning around it.
2. Tides and light: We check sunset, light and tide times for your date in advance from the desk, so the portrait walk can take in the beach or the water's edge when it suits.
3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The terrace gives you room; choose somewhere with a sheltered backup. Ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
5. Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The paths above the sea and the beach below give you very different backdrops within a short walk.
6. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a hotel above a beach, with a terrace and sea views is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
