A country house and 35 acres of parkland on the Hampshire and Berkshire border

Highfield Park is on Church Lane at Heckfield, near Hook, in Hampshire (RG27 0LG), close to the Berkshire border. Its own wedding pages describe a country house hotel with exclusive-use hire, a licence for civil ceremonies, a church in the grounds and about 35 acres of parkland, and its brochure lists a number of rooms for ceremonies, dinners and evening parties.

We photographed Charlie and Rachael's wedding here on 26 September 2021, and theirs is the day in this guide: a ceremony in a room with a marble fireplace and a chandelier, confetti at the front of the red-brick house, and portraits in the open parkland as the light dropped. Our Hampshire guide, Berkshire guide and Reading guide show more weddings nearby.

For current venue details, explore Highfield Park. This wedding was in September, so ask the venue how the house and parkland look in other seasons, which ceremony room suits your numbers and what its current packages and capacities are.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

A ceremony room, a glass-fronted wing and open parkland

The venue's wedding pages describe exclusive-use weddings, a choice of rooms for the ceremony, dinner and party, and grounds that include a parish church and open parkland. The photographs on this page show two of those settings: a ceremony room with a fireplace and chandelier, and a lawn that falls away from the red-brick front of the house.

Capacities and room names change, so ask the venue for its current brochure, which rooms are licensed for ceremonies on your date and how late music and dancing can run.

02 / September 2021 / Charlie and Rachael

Charlie and Rachael: a chandelier ceremony, confetti at the door and a twirl in the last light

Charlie and Rachael married on 26 September 2021. One of them wore a white gown with a deep V neck and a long veil, the other a white suit, and both carried bouquets of blush roses and soft greenery. In the photograph at the top of this page they stand with their noses together in the parkland, a bouquet held low between them.

The ceremony took place in a pale room with a marble fireplace, a mirror and a chandelier. Before it began, a father in a navy three-piece suit, resting on a walking stick, waited with a bridesmaid behind him while the couple held hands and smiled at each other. Later, at the kiss, he was applauding from the front row as guests laughed and cheered.

Outside, guests threw confetti as the couple walked along the front of the house, laughing, bouquets in hand. Against the brick wall, one bride put her arms around the other for a quiet moment away from the crowd.

As the evening went on they walked hand in hand across the lawn towards the house, a long train sweeping the grass, and in the lowest sun one of them spun in her gown with the light behind her. A drone photograph shows the whole picture: the red-brick house, its glass-fronted pavilion with a marquee beside it, a wide lawn and a church tower beyond.

Planning your photographs at Highfield Park

Questions to put to the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Which room for the ceremony: Charlie and Rachael married in a room with a fireplace and a chandelier. Ask which rooms are licensed on your date, how many guests each holds and when the room is ready for us to photograph before the guests arrive.
  2. Confetti at the front: The brick frontage was a lovely backdrop for confetti and a couple walking together. Ask what the house allows for confetti and where guests can gather, and plan a wide enough space for the throw.
  3. Parkland and low sun: In September the light dropped quickly over the lawn, and the best frames came in the last hour. Ask when sunset falls on your date and keep twenty minutes free for portraits before dinner.
  4. Sparklers and fireworks: The venue's pages mention rules on lanterns, confetti cannons and fireworks, so check what is allowed before you plan an exit or a sparkler moment.
  5. Group photographs: We make as many as you wish, usually around 15, which take about 20 minutes. Choose a spot with room for everyone and a sheltered fallback, and ask someone who knows both families to gather people.
  6. A day that runs on: A day with a ceremony, drinks, a dinner and an evening party is easier when there is one timetable for photographs and film. Share the venue's schedule with us early and we will work back from it.
