A lakeside hotel on Ullswater

Inn On The Lake is in Glenridding, Cumbria (CA11 0PE). The venue says it stands in 15 acres of landscaped grounds, with sweeping lawns running down to the Ullswater lakeshore, and that it hosts only one wedding a day so the day is your own.

We filmed Shelley and Harry's wedding here in May 2025. This page follows their day through stills from their highlight film, so the pictures below are film frames rather than photographs. Our Lake District guide shows Inn On The Lake beside other venues in the Lakes, and here we stay with the venue itself. What we say about the venue comes from its own website, and what we say about the images comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Inn On The Lake. Shelley and Harry's wedding was in May, so ask the venue how the grounds and the lakeshore look at other times of year.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

A lakeside gazebo, approved rooms and a bar for dancing

For the ceremony the venue says you can choose from a selection of approved rooms or its Lakeside Gazebo, which gives flexibility on numbers, from small gatherings to celebrations of up to 100 guests. Ceremonies are booked by you directly with Cumbria Registrars, and the venue says your dog can attend if the registrars agree.

The wedding breakfast can be served in the Lake View restaurant, and the venue says the latest time to sit down there is 3.30pm. Evening dancing is in Ramblers Bar and the Candleroom, both of which have wooden floors, and the duty manager acts as your master of ceremonies on the day.

For photographs, the venue says there are many opportunities in and around the grounds, including the lakeshore jetty, with the nearby fells and Ullswater as your backdrop. It asks for biodegradable confetti, does not permit Chinese lanterns and does not usually allow fireworks without prior written consent.

02 / May 2025 / Shelley and Harry

Shelley and Harry: a gazebo kiss, confetti and a jetty on the lake

Shelley and Harry married at Inn On The Lake on 16 May 2025. The image at the top of this page is from their portraits in the garden: Shelley laughing with her eyes closed, a bouquet of white and blush flowers in one hand, while Harry holds her from behind. These images are stills from their highlight film.

The film begins with the morning. A pair of white ankle-strap shoes sits beside a bottle of perfume, a pair of pearl drop earrings and the bouquet, all resting on a veil dotted with pearls.

The ceremony is in a gazebo hung with white blossom, with the lake and the lawn showing through the pillars behind. At the moment they are pronounced married, Shelley and Harry kiss in an embrace and someone claps at the edge of the frame. Afterwards they walk back down the aisle through a shower of confetti, Shelley laughing with her bouquet, Harry pointing at someone in the crowd, and the green roof of the gazebo and the fellside behind them.

For the portraits they head out into the grounds. Harry pushes Shelley on a rope swing hung from a tree on a sunlit lawn, her dress lifting as she swings. Then they stand nose to nose in front of the dark blue water.

The last of these frames has them hand in hand on a wooden jetty, her veil and skirt lifting in the breeze, looking out over the lake to the hills beyond.

03 / Staying at the Inn / From the venue's own description

Forty-four suites and bedrooms on site

The venue says it has 44 suites and bedrooms, including two Lake View Suites with private balconies and a number of rooms with views of Ullswater. Most rooms take dogs, and the venue asks you to say when booking if you would like a room where they are not allowed.

For photographs, ask the venue which rooms you can use for getting ready and when they are available, so we can plan the morning around where each of you is.

Planning your wedding film and photographs at Inn On The Lake

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Timing: The venue recommends ceremony times between 12.00 and 1.30pm, subject to the registrar, and says the latest wedding breakfast sit-down in the Lake View restaurant is 3.30pm. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
  2. Evening light: Shelley and Harry married in mid-May, and the portrait frames above show warm light across the lawn and the water. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you before the day.
  3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The venue offers approved rooms as well as the gazebo for ceremonies. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask the venue where it suggests for groups in the grounds; ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.
  6. Confetti and music: The venue asks for biodegradable confetti and does not permit Chinese lanterns. For a live band or DJ the venue says sound restrictions apply, so talk to it early about what is allowed.

One team for the photographs and the film

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
