A Queen Anne manor in 63 acres

Lainston House is on Woodman Lane at Sparsholt, near Winchester in Hampshire (SO21 2LT). The venue calls it a Queen Anne manor set in 63 acres, and says its wedding spaces can be indoor or outdoor, rustic or grand.

We photographed and filmed Hannah and Jamie's wedding here on 23 April 2022. This page follows it in photographs and in their highlight film. Our Hampshire guide and Southampton guide show the house beside other venues nearby, and here we stay with the venue itself. What we say about the house comes from its own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Lainston House. Ask the venue about capacities and bedrooms, which its wedding page does not give.

Barns, drawing rooms and lawns in 63 acres

The venue describes wedding spaces that can be indoor or outdoor, rustic or grand, and lists the Dawley Barn, the Drawing Room, the South Lawn and an outdoor wedding pavilion. For food it offers a dinner, an evening buffet and a recovery breakfast, which couples can choose between.

The venue does not give ceremony or reception capacities on its wedding page, so ask for them in writing, along with the number of bedrooms, when you enquire. Showrounds can be booked on weekends online and on weekdays by phone.

Hannah and Jamie: confetti, spring blossom and a sunset kiss

Hannah and Jamie married at Lainston House on 23 April 2022. The photograph at the top of this page is from the end of the day: Hannah and Jamie kiss in the golden light of the setting sun, the leaves of a tree glowing behind them.

In the first photograph Jamie, in a navy suit, and Hannah, in a white gown with a bouquet of white and pink flowers, walk through a shower of confetti as guests cheer behind them. In the grounds they appear small beneath spring trees in full blossom.

In a black and white photograph they hold each other beneath a stone arch hung with ivy, Hannah's bouquet between them. They stand small between two brick gate piers on the drive, the red-brick house behind them, and kiss in front of tall white-framed windows in a brick wall.

Planning your photographs at Lainston House

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Where the ceremony happens: The venue offers indoor and outdoor spaces, so decide with it which suits your numbers and the season, and tell us so we can arrange the morning around it.
  2. Spring blossom: Hannah and Jamie's April wedding came with trees in blossom. If your date is in spring, ask the venue when the grounds are at their best, and we will plan the portrait walk around it.
  3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The South Lawn and the drive give you room. Ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. An ivy arch, a gated drive and a brick wall with tall windows sit close together near the house.
  6. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a Queen Anne manor with a drive, lawns and an outdoor pavilion is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
