Charlie and Peter: newspapers on a four-poster bed, an archway and a tree-lined drive

Charlie and Peter married on 7 June 2025. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them kissing on a gravel driveway beneath a tunnel of green trees. The morning is playful: in black and white, a row of bridesmaids in loungewear sit on a four-poster bed, each holding a newspaper open in front of her face, with white flowers at the foot of the bed.

Charlie walks hand in hand with a man in a dark suit through an archway towards her bridesmaids in sage green, who react with joy at the first sight of her. Beside a stone wall, in black and white, Peter presses his hands together and takes a quiet moment.

Charlie arrives beside a man in a black suit and bow tie beneath a chandelier hung with white drapes and fairy lights, in a stone-walled room with flowers either side of the aisle. Afterwards she and Peter walk out beneath falling confetti while bridesmaids in sage green cheer around them.

The day ends on the long driveway, where a dark sports car with glowing red tail lights and a Just Married number plate drives away between the trees.

The same green drive is where Charlie and Peter kiss in the photograph at the top of this page.

Planning your photographs at Notley Abbey

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Where the ceremony is: in Abbot's Hall, the Monks' Refectory or the Walled Garden in summer. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
  2. Getting ready: ask when the Notley Suite and the other bedrooms are yours on the morning, since that is where the first photographs happen.
  3. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask someone who knows everyone to round people up.
  4. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The tree-lined driveway, the walled garden and the lawn give you very different backdrops. In June, we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
  5. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The venue names the Hall and Drawing Room, with open fires, for winter drinks.
