Sopley Mill Wedding Photographer & Videographer
A watermill on the River Avon near Christchurch, seen through a September 2018 wedding: a ceremony in the village church, petals at the porch, a stile in the water meadows and a first dance under the mill's brick walls.

In short: Bright Sight is Cam and Beth, a photo and video duo based near Cardiff. This page is about weddings at Sopley Mill, near Christchurch on the Hampshire and Dorset border, where we photographed a wedding in September 2018. Standard full-day packages start at £2,099 for photography, £2,099 for videography or £3,799 for both, with travel included and a £120 deposit to secure your date.
A listed watermill between two arms of the River Avon
Sopley Mill is on Mill Lane in Sopley, near Christchurch (BH23 7AU), on the Hampshire and Dorset border. Wedding listings describe a Grade II listed watermill with the River Avon on both sides, views across water meadows and exclusive use of the site, with the freedom to bring your own suppliers.
We photographed Neil and Vikki's wedding here on 16 September 2018, and their day is the one in this guide: a ceremony in the village church, petals at its porch, portraits by the river and a first dance in the mill. Our Dorset guide and Bournemouth guide show more weddings along the coast.
This wedding was in September, so ask the venue how the mill and its meadows look in other seasons, and check its current packages, capacities and hire rates.

Brick mill rooms, a river on both sides and water meadows beyond
Listings describe a renovated watermill with a licence for ceremonies and room for a seated meal for around 100 guests, with more joining in the evening. Figures differ between directories, so treat them as a starting point and ask the venue for the numbers that apply to your date.
Neil and Vikki's ceremony was in the nearby church rather than the mill, which is a common choice here. Ask the venue about the distance between the two, how guests will get across, and how late the mill can run in the evening.

Neil and Vikki: a church ceremony, petals at the porch and a first dance in the mill
Neil and Vikki married on 16 September 2018. Neil wore a textured blue jacket with a bright buttonhole and Vikki a fitted white dress with a plaited crown, and in the photograph at the top of this page they stand close together beside the river, a sunlit bank behind them.

The ceremony was in a stone church with a bright blue aisle carpet: Neil slides the ring onto Vikki's finger in the first photograph, and in the second the two of them kiss as the vicar holds the book beside them. At the register they laugh into the lens, a vase of sunflowers beside them.

At the church porch, guests in the arch's shadow threw petals over the couple, a small child held up behind them. Then, out among the water meadows, Neil helped Vikki over a wooden stile, her bouquet of sunflowers in his hand, before the two of them walked hand in hand through the riverside grass in a black and white frame.

Their first dance was in the mill, under a low ceiling with red brick walls and blue lights. The last photograph shows the mill from across the river after dark, its windows glowing and its reflection broken by the water.

Planning your photographs at Sopley Mill
Questions to put to the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:
- Church and mill: A ceremony in the village church and a reception at the mill means two places and a short journey. Ask the venue about parking, how guests will move between them and when the mill is ready for them.
- The river: The Avon runs on both sides of the mill, so ask about fencing, any places we can walk and the advice for children and the evening. We will plan portraits on the bank during the daylight.
- Water meadows: Neil and Vikki's stile and riverside walk came from the meadows beyond the mill. Check what you may walk through and bring shoes for damp grass.
- Petals at the porch: A church porch frames confetti beautifully. Ask the church and the venue what they allow and who clears it.
- Group photographs: We make as many as you wish, usually around 15, which take about 20 minutes. Choose a spot with room for everyone and a sheltered fallback, and ask someone who knows both families to gather people.
- Evening in the mill: The brick room and its lights made a warm setting for the first dance. Ask how late music can run and where the dance floor sits, so we can plan our evening coverage.
One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a watermill with a church ceremony nearby and a river on both sides is planned once: one timetable, one list of questions for the venue and one shared portrait walk for photographs and film.
The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
Questions about a Sopley Mill wedding
Do you photograph and film weddings at Sopley Mill?
Yes. We photographed a wedding at Sopley Mill in September 2018. Send us your date and we will tell you whether we are free. Travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages.
Where is Sopley Mill?
On Mill Lane in Sopley, near Christchurch (BH23 7AU), on the Hampshire and Dorset border. Our Dorset and Bournemouth guides show more weddings along the coast.
Is Sopley Mill in Dorset or Hampshire?
The village of Sopley is on the border and the venue has a Christchurch address, so listings use both counties. We plan it alongside our Dorset, Bournemouth and Hampshire weddings.
Can the ceremony be at the mill?
Listings describe the mill as licensed for weddings, while Neil and Vikki's ceremony was in the village church. Ask the venue what is licensed on your date and what suits your guest numbers.
What happens if it rains?
The mill gives you indoor space for the meal and the evening, so agree a covered or indoor spot for group photographs. A wet riverside still photographs beautifully, and on the day we settle it with you and the venue.
Can we bring our own suppliers?
Listings describe the mill as a blank canvas that welcomes your own suppliers. Ask the venue for any rules, and tell us who else is involved so we can plan around them.
Can we book photography and videography together?
Yes. Our photo and video team package puts both under one booking with a £120 deposit, and it carries a £400 saving compared with booking them separately. See the package pages for current coverage and prices.
How much does a Sopley Mill wedding photographer and videographer cost?
Our standard full-day packages start at £2,099 for photography, £2,099 for videography and £3,799 for photography and videography together. Sopley is a fair drive from our base near Cardiff, but travel anywhere in England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages, so Sopley Mill adds no travel charge. Longer packages add more coverage and extras, and the package pages show the current inclusions.
