Tucked away in the village of Bentley in Hampshire, about five miles south-west of Farnham, The Barn at Bury Court sits near the Surrey and Hampshire border. The venue centres on its barn and a courtyard garden designed by Piet Oudolf, created on the site of an old, partially walled farmyard.

We are Cam and Beth, the documentary photo and video team behind Bright Sight. Over a decade and more than four hundred weddings, we have captured multiple celebrations at Bury Court across the seasons. What makes this venue exceptional is its effortless continuity: everything from morning bridal preparations to outdoor vows, garden drinks, dining and dancefloor celebrations can happen on one site, with on-site rooms and a bridal suite.

Bridal preparations and garden vows

Morning preparations at Bury Court have a calm, grounded rhythm. The venue has a bridal suite and on-site bedrooms, including rooms in the original Oast House and in the courtyard, so both partners can get ready close to the ceremony. Ask the venue which rooms come with your booking.

For ceremonies, couples can choose between outdoor vows in the gardens or an indoor ceremony in the barn. Tom and Sarah held their ceremony outdoors on a warm July afternoon. Guests sat surrounded by purple salvia and ornamental grasses while acoustic guitar melodies drifted through the summer air.

One of the most defining features of The Barn at Bury Court is its courtyard garden, designed by Piet Oudolf, a leading figure in the new perennial movement, who is also known for New York's High Line and Hauser & Wirth Somerset. The planting is naturalistic, flanked by ornamental grasses and hardy perennials.

Following the ceremony, the courtyard garden becomes a lively social hub for champagne, canapes and congratulations. Tom and Sarah walked through a joyful shower of confetti along the stone courtyard path before mingling with their guests.

Barn celebrations

As evening approaches, guests step into the barn. With its exposed timber roof structure, brick walls, chandelier and fairy lights along the beams, the barn creates an immediate sense of occasion while retaining rustic intimacy.

Long banquet tables or round setups can both work in the space, so confirm layouts with the venue for your guest numbers. The wooden floor is ready for an energetic evening party as the band or DJ kicks off.

When twilight arrives, the barn transforms into a warm, glowing celebration. The fairy lights and chandelier glow against the timber and brick while family and friends gather on the dance floor.

Practical planning advice for The Barn at Bury Court

Here are essential logistical details to keep in mind when organising your celebration at Bury Court:

1. Travel and transport: Bury Court is in Bentley, north of the A31 between Farnham and Alton, with the A3 and M25 close by. Bentley railway station is about five minutes away by car, with direct trains to London Waterloo in just under an hour, making it accessible for guests travelling from London and the South East.
2. Local accommodation: Bury Court has on-site bedrooms, including rooms in the Oast House and the courtyard, which can host the wedding party. Farnham and Alton, both nearby, offer further hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts for travelling guests. Confirm current room numbers with the venue.
3. Lighting inside the barn: Because dark timber beams can absorb light, rely on warm uplighting, fairy lights and candles on the tables. We use specialized directional flash bounces that preserve the cozy amber warmth without harsh shadows.
