The Mill Barns is at Alveley, near Bridgnorth in Shropshire. The venue describes three oak-framed wedding barns for exclusive use, on the banks of a tributary of the River Severn on the Shropshire and Worcestershire border, formerly the site of a 17th-century water mill, with eight acres of mature landscaped gardens, water features and three outdoor terraces. It is exclusive to your guests and staff from 11am to midnight.

The Mill Wheel Barn, the Mill Pond Barn and the terraces

The venue's barns page names three. The Mill Wheel Barn is the ceremony barn, with a glazed side overlooking the Mill Pond and a visible timber roof structure, licensed for civil weddings for up to 170 people. The Mill Stone Barn, entered through a grand double door, hosts the drinks reception. The Mill Pond Barn is for the wedding breakfast and the evening party, with a dance floor, a stage and a bar, and seating that adapts for 25 to 170 guests.

Outdoors, the Terrace overlooking the Mill Pond is an approved outdoor ceremony location, a walkway links three terraces, and a footbridge crosses the water to the entrance. In Sian and Tim's photographs the grounds give a lawn beside the pond under a weeping willow, and the barn gives exposed trusses, festoon lights and a long run of tall windows.

Sian and Tim: a veil by the window, a willow by the pond and a barn laid for dinner

Sian and Tim married at The Mill Barns on 30 March 2025. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Sian in an off-the-shoulder lace gown with a bouquet of white flowers and Tim in a stone double-breasted suit, walking hand in hand across a lawn beside the pond under a weeping willow.

Before the ceremony, a bridesmaid in champagne adjusts Sian's veil at a tall window with floral curtains and an oak post, and the barn waits for the wedding breakfast: round tables with white cloths and chairs under exposed trusses hung with festoon lights, tall windows along one side.

03 / Staying at The Mill Barns / From the venue's own description

Rooms for up to 44 guests

The venue says its wedding night accommodation sleeps up to 44 guests, with a Guest Lounge and a Granary Breakfast Room, and that the Waterscapes Bedroom Suite is for the couple on the wedding night, included in the hire price. It also says there is no corkage or service fee on supplied drinks.

For photographs, a room on site keeps the morning calm, with the veil and the flowers close to the ceremony. Tell us your rooms and timings and we will plan the day around them.

Planning your photographs at The Mill Barns

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Ceremony: The Mill Wheel Barn indoors or the Terrace by the pond. Tell us your choice so we can plan the morning around it.
2. Exclusive hours: The venue is exclusive from 11am to midnight. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day, and we settle it together on the day.
4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
5. Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The mill pond, the lawn and the terraces give you very different backdrops.

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so oak-framed barns beside a mill pond are familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
