In short: Bright Sight is Cam and Beth, a photo and video duo based near Cardiff. This page is about weddings at Tyn Dwr Hall in Llangollen, North Wales, where we have photographed and filmed three weddings. Standard full-day packages start at £1,999 for photography, £1,999 for videography or £3,699 for both, with travel included and a £120 deposit to secure your date.

A listed hall above the Dee Valley

Tyn Dwr Hall is on Tyn Dwr Road in Llangollen, Denbighshire (LL20 8AR). The venue calls itself a family-run, exclusive-use wedding venue, a Grade II listed country house in the Dee Valley dating from 1865 and renovated in a modern style, and says it sits within seven acres of Welsh countryside. It hosts weddings from Monday to Saturday.

We have photographed and filmed three weddings here: Lauren and Liam in August 2022, Kerry and Stewart in October 2022 and Emma and Andy in June 2023. All three are in this guide, and Emma and Andy's swing under the yew tree opens it. Our Cheshire guide mentions the hall as a neighbouring wedding in North Wales; here we stay with the hall itself. What we say about the rooms and the grounds comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

The hall, the terrace and the garden

The venue says ceremonies can be held in the Summer House or in the Ballroom, with space for up to 120 guests indoors and up to 150 outdoors, weather dependent. The wedding breakfast is in the Garden Room, a light-filled room with countryside views, and the Ballroom becomes the evening room, with a dance floor and what the venue calls fantastic acoustics. It lists up to 150 guests for dining and up to 200 for the evening.

Outside, the Terrace Gardens are used for drinks and evening moments, with fire pits and blankets as the light goes, and the venue says there are views of the Welsh mountains. A garden walkway winds around the hall and follows a stream to a waterfall, there is ancient woodland to explore, and from a yew tree hangs a swing, which the venue describes as playful. Outside music ends at 7pm, and the party can continue inside until midnight, with last orders at 11.30pm. Each of these is the venue's own information, so confirm the details for your date.

02 / June 2023 / Emma and Andy

Emma and Andy: a swing, a footbridge and a lawn full of friends

Emma and Andy married at Tyn Dwr Hall on 24 June 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits by the swing: Emma sits on it in a lace gown with a very long train, Andy sits close beside her with his forehead against hers, and a whitewashed cottage and a huge old tree trunk stand behind them. A second swing photograph shows Emma on the seat with her train spread across the bark chippings and Andy standing behind her, smiling down.

The day starts in a hall with leaded bay windows, where Emma's friends laugh in champagne satin robes, and Emma comes down a wooden staircase under a chandelier on her father's arm, he in a cream suit and she with a bouquet of white roses.

After the ceremony Emma and Andy walk hand in hand through a shower of confetti between their guests, the half-timbered brick of the hall behind them.

The garden gives them plenty of backdrops. They touch foreheads among rocks and greenery, Emma in her veil with the white bouquet, and stand face to face on a rope-railed wooden footbridge under a tree in white blossom, her train spilling down the boards.

They walk hand in hand along a gravel path with a gazebo and the hall behind them, and Emma sits on the swing again with Andy standing behind her.

Later Andy lifts Emma in his arms in front of the half-timbered hall, and Emma laughs with seven friends in bright dresses on the lawn in front of a glass wall that reflects chandeliers and hills.

03 / August 2022 / Lauren and Liam

Lauren and Liam: sage green, a dark panelled room and a barrel on the terrace

Lauren and Liam married here on 22 August 2022, a Monday. Liam gets ready in the shadow of a dark panelled room, adjusting the collar of his waistcoat beside a window, and Lauren, with long red hair and a bouquet of green foliage, smiles next to her father in a bright room.

04 / October 2022 / Kerry and Stewart

Kerry and Stewart: an embrace, a toast at the teal bar and sparklers on the terrace

Kerry and Stewart married at Tyn Dwr Hall on 24 October 2022. In black and white, a man in a dark suit opens his arms to hug Kerry, in her veil, who reaches towards him in a room with patterned wallpaper. Later the two of them walk along the aisle, Stewart in navy and Kerry smiling in an off-the-shoulder gown.

In the garden Stewart kisses Kerry's cheek as she holds a bouquet of red and pink roses, and back inside three men in dark suits and waistcoats raise their glasses at a teal bar with two hanging lamps above it.

The evening ends with dancing and sparklers, Kerry and Stewart in the middle of their guests with the black-and-white timbered front of the hall lit up behind them. The venue says sparklers are allowed on the terrace, and that it suggests wooden eco sparklers.

Summer or autumn at the same hall

The three weddings run from late summer to autumn, and the hall changes with them. In June and August the garden does the work: the swing, the footbridge under blossom, the gravel paths and the terrace with the hills beyond. By late October the day moves inside, to the staircase, the bar and the dance floor, and the evening ends with sparklers on the terrace.

If you are marrying later in the year, daylight is short and we keep outdoor photographs close to the indoors, straight from the ceremony. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance, and agree the plan with you before the day.

05 / Staying at Tyn Dwr Hall / From the venue's own description

Twenty-seven bedrooms on site

The venue lists 27 bedrooms sleeping up to 66 guests, including honeymoon suites, hall guest rooms, the Coach House, a glamping village and Yew Tree Cottage. It says overnight guests can stay in the hall until 2am, and that check-out is at 10am from Monday to Saturday.

For photographs, a room in the hall means getting ready a short walk from the ceremony. The venue says the dressing room is available from 8am if there is no wedding the day before, so ask which rooms come with your booking and when you can have them.

Planning your photographs at Tyn Dwr Hall

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Which ceremony space: the Summer House or the Ballroom, indoors or outdoors, depending on your numbers and the weather. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
  2. Rain: agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  3. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  4. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The swing, the garden paths and the terrace give you very different backdrops.
  5. The evening: the venue says outside music ends at 7pm and the party runs inside until midnight, and our evening coverage follows your booked hours. If you want sparklers on the terrace, ask the venue about its current rules.
