An estate in the Cambrian Mountains
Tynrhyd Retreat is near Devil's Bridge, Aberystwyth, in Ceredigion (SY23 4QX). The venue describes its setting in the Celtic Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales, with rolling hills, a Great Hall with soaring beams and a glazed roof, and picturesque outdoor settings for ceremonies and receptions. It is licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships.
We photographed and filmed Ella and Josh's wedding here in July 2026, and their day is told in the photographs on this page, opened by the two of them in the evening light. Our Pembrokeshire guide shows Tynrhyd beside other West and Mid Wales venues; here we stay with the estate itself. What we say about the buildings and the grounds comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

The Great Hall, the lounges and the outdoor settings
The venue's wedding page says the Great Hall, with soaring beams and a glazed roof, is used for ceremonies and receptions, and that there are picturesque outdoor settings for both. The Cambrian and Pumlumon House lounges have countryside views and log burners. Exclusive use covers up to 50 guests, and the accommodation sleeps 50.
In Ella and Josh's photographs the ceremony is outdoors: a drape of white fabric hung between two posts on a gravel terrace, a hessian aisle between rows of guests with bouquets of blue and white flowers, and a backdrop of pine woods and green hills.

Ella and Josh: white drapes, a long train and low sun through the pines
Ella and Josh married at Tynrhyd on 7 July 2026. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Josh in a dark jacket and Ella in a lace gown with a bouquet of pale blue and white flowers, close together in warm evening light with a green hillside behind them.
At the ceremony Ella and Josh stand face to face for their vows under white drapes hung between two posts, an older woman in navy beside them and a dog sitting at their feet on the gravel. From the back of the aisle the drapes frame the two of them embracing, rows of guests with blue and white bouquets on either side and the pine woods behind.

On the lawn a woman in a pale blue dress and a small fascinator lifts Ella's very long lace train while Ella holds her bouquet in the sun, the forested hills behind them.

As the light drops Ella and Josh walk through long grass among tall pine trunks, the low sun streaming through, and in black and white Josh kisses Ella's temple on the hillside, her bouquet in her hand.

03 / Staying at Tynrhyd / From the venue's own description
A bridal suite and rooms for 50
The venue says guests can arrive to get ready on site and leave the day after, with stays of a weekend or a week. Its Cariad bridal suite has views of rolling hills, and Barcud House offers private getting-ready space with its own kitchen and living area.
For photographs, getting ready on the estate means the morning is calm and the ceremony is a short walk away. Tell us your rooms and timings and we will plan the day around them.

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:
- Ceremony: The Great Hall or an outdoor setting. Tell us your choice so we can plan the morning and the light around it.
- Evening light: The hills and pines are at their best in low sun. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the portrait plan with you before the day.
- Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day, and we settle it together on the day.
- Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
- Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The hillside, the pine woods and the lawn give you very different backdrops.
One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a mountain estate with a glazed hall, a gravel terrace and pine woods is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.
The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
