A manor house in 39 acres

Whirlow Brook Hall is at Whirlow Brook Park, Ecclesall Road South, Sheffield, South Yorkshire (S11 9QD). Its own site says the grounds cover 39 acres and that the hall began as a manor house built in 1906, with original features such as ornate fireplaces and woodwork. It also says the venue is about four miles from Sheffield city centre.

Kirsten and Ben: a walk through the guests and an autumn tree

Kirsten and Ben married on 29 September 2022, and we photographed and filmed their day. The highlight film further down this page is from it. Below is a photograph of their wedding that is on this site, and another is at the top of the page.

They walk hand in hand along a path through their guests, Kirsten smiling in a lace gown and veil with a bouquet of dried flowers, Ben in a navy suit and orange tie, with petals on the ground around them. The photograph at the top of this page shows them standing close together on the lawn in front of a tree in bright orange autumn colour.

The venue's own page lists the manicured lawn and the rockery as spots for photographs, so late September is a good month to think about colour.

The Oak Room, the Garden Suite and the terrace

The venue's wedding page says civil ceremonies for up to 80 guests take place in the Oak Room, which has original wooden panelling, and that larger ceremonies are held in the Garden Suite overlooking the grounds. The wedding breakfast is in the Garden Suite, which seats up to 120, and guests then move to the bar or the terrace while the room is changed for the evening.

Booking includes the whole venue on the day, with a purpose-built ready room. The pages do not give a ceremony licence or evening numbers, so ask when you enquire.

No bedrooms on site, with a sister hotel for guests

Whirlow Brook Hall has no overnight accommodation on site. Its accommodation page says most wedding guests stay at its sister venue, the Mercure Sheffield Kenwood Hall Hotel and Spa, and that the venue can offer couples a complimentary Junior Suite there for the night of the wedding. The page does not give bedroom numbers, so ask the wedding team.

Planning your photographs at Whirlow Brook Hall

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Which room: the Oak Room or the Garden Suite for the ceremony, depending on your numbers. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning and the first photographs around it.
2. Getting ready: the venue includes a purpose-built ready room, so ask when it is yours on the morning.
3. Group photographs: the lawn gives you room for them. We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask someone who knows everyone to round people up.
4. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The lawn, the rockery and the trees give you different backdrops, and the colour changes a lot between summer and autumn.
5. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The Oak Room, the Garden Suite and the ready room are the indoor spaces the venue lists.

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a manor house with a manicured lawn and a leafy park is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
