Wood Hall Hotel is on Trip Lane at Linton, near Wetherby (LS22 4JA). The venue's wedding page describes a country house perched high on a hill in 100 acres of landscape, with views over the Wharfe Valley, and says the River Wharfe runs through its private grounds. The photographs show a stone house with ivy-covered walls, a lawn and open fields beyond.

We photographed and filmed one wedding here: Brittany and Callum on 1 August 2024. Their day is the one in this guide, with the morning in a bright bedroom, a walk across the lawn and a confetti send-off on the front steps.

Brittany and Callum: an ivy-covered doorway, the lawn and confetti on the steps

Brittany and Callum married on 1 August 2024. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them kissing in an open doorway beside a wall of green ivy. The morning begins with the details laid out on a pale surface: the invitation, the bridal shoes, two rings and a bottle of perfume. Brittany then stands at a tall curtained window while a woman in a black floral dress fastens the back of her lace dress.

Later Brittany and Callum walk hand in hand across the lawn towards a stone wall and open fields, Brittany looking back over her shoulder.

The send-off is on stone steps below tall pillars, with the two of them kissing as guests on both sides throw confetti.

The Georgian, the Vavasour Suite, the front steps and the Italian Gardens

The venue's ceremony page lists four ceremony settings. The Georgian is a restored room with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the Wharfe Valley, for a ceremony of up to 60. The Vavasour Suite is a refurbished principal suite with vast windows and chandeliers, for up to 100. Outdoors, the front steps, framed by a pillared entrance, and the Italian Gardens, with floral archways and bordered lawns, are each listed for up to 100.

The wedding page gives overall capacities of 100 for the ceremony, 100 for the wedding meal and 150 for the evening party, and says outdoor ceremonies are available. Its grounds page mentions gardens with room for reception drinks and photographs, including expansive lawns. The pages do not mention a ceremony licence, so ask the venue about it.

Forty-four bedrooms on site

The venue says couples can take all 44 of its bedrooms, and its FAQ says guests can book a special rate as part of a wedding package. It also offers complimentary on-site parking for wedding guests. For photographs, a room at the hotel means getting ready beside the place you will celebrate. Ask which rooms come with your booking and when you can have them on the morning of the wedding.

Planning your photographs at Wood Hall Hotel

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Which ceremony setting: the Georgian, the Vavasour Suite, the front steps or the Italian Gardens. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
2. Getting ready: ask which bedrooms are yours on the morning and from what time, since that is where the first photographs happen.
3. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The Georgian and the Vavasour Suite give you indoor ceremony choices.
4. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The steps and the lawns give you room, so choose a spot with a sheltered backup.
5. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The ivy-covered walls, the lawn, the fields and the front steps give you very different backdrops. In August, we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
