A Jacobean-style manor house by the sea

Clevedon Hall is on Elton Road in Clevedon, North Somerset (BS21 7RH). The venue describes a splendid manor house built in the Jacobean style, in the seaside town of Clevedon, a short distance from Bristol Airport and close to the M5. It is an exclusive-use venue, so its team focuses on your event rather than on other guests.

We photographed and filmed Rhiannon and Wayne's wedding here on 7 January 2023. This page follows it in photographs. Our Bristol guide and Somerset guide show the Hall beside other venues in the area, and here we stay with the venue itself. What we say about the house comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Clevedon Hall. Ask the venue for its current exclusive-use hours and package details when you enquire.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

The Great Hall, the Orangery and the Grand Library

The venue's wedding page names the Great Hall, the Orangery, the Grand Library and a room named for Dame Rosa Burden among its interior spaces, and describes a hand-crafted gazebo in the garden with seating for 150 guests on the terrace around it. The wedding breakfast can be served in the main house for up to 150 guests, and the evening party can welcome up to 250.

Outside, the venue lists a lavender-lined drive, sweeping lawns, a private lake, a fountain and the gazebo. The lawn can also hold a marquee seating up to 250 guests for a wedding breakfast. Fireworks are allowed if they are booked through the venue's preferred supplier.

Exclusive use starts at 11am on the wedding day, or at 3pm the day before if you book a multi-day package that includes the bedrooms. Catering is mostly done in-house, and the venue offers an approved list of external caterers subject to its terms.

02 / January 2023 / Rhiannon and Wayne

Rhiannon and Wayne: leaded windows, chandelier light and fireworks

Rhiannon and Wayne married at Clevedon Hall on 7 January 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is a silhouette: the couple kiss in front of tall leaded windows, the bride in a veil and gown, a lamp glowing on a table beside them. In January the day is short, and the windows of the house do a great deal of the work.

In the morning the bride sits in a dressing gown in a room with a chandelier overhead while her hair and make-up are done, seen through the open door. In another photograph the bride and her bridesmaids in green robes sit on a white padded bed under a chandelier, raising glasses.

The evening ends outside. Wayne, in a waistcoat, holds Rhiannon, who is wrapped in a white fur shawl, and they look back together as fireworks burst against the night sky.

03 / Winter at the Hall

Planning a January or winter wedding here

A winter wedding at a house like this keeps most of the day indoors, near big windows. In winter we keep outdoor photographs close to the indoors, straight from the ceremony, and we check sunset and light times for your date in advance so that the few outdoor minutes land when the light is best.

The fireworks in this wedding show why a late finish outdoors is worth planning. Ask the venue about its preferred firework supplier and where on the grounds they are let off, and tell us so we can be in position.

04 / Staying at the Hall / From the venue's own description

Twenty-five bedrooms and a cottage

The venue lists 25 en-suite bedrooms, sleeping up to 65 overnight guests in the main house, with a few family rooms that sleep up to five. The Cottage is available the night before for up to eight people. Standard check-out is by 10.30am on the day after the wedding.

For photographs, ask which rooms you can use for getting ready and when exclusive use begins, so we can plan the morning around where each of you is.

Planning your photographs at Clevedon Hall

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Where the ceremony happens: The venue offers the garden gazebo, and its interior rooms include the Great Hall and the Orangery. Decide with the venue which suits your numbers and the season, and tell us, so we can arrange the morning around it.
  2. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  3. Winter light: In winter, daylight is short. We keep outdoor photographs close to the indoors, straight from the ceremony, and agree the plan with you in advance.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
