Set in the village of Dodford in West Northamptonshire, near Weedon and Daventry, Dodford Manor is an award-winning, exclusive-use barn wedding venue surrounded by more than 20 acres of countryside. It is a Grade II listed restored barn venue, and its two main spaces make a warm, characterful backdrop for wedding celebrations: the 1680s ironstone Mortain Barn and the glass-walled, oak-framed Oak Barn.

We are Cam and Beth, the documentary photo and video team behind Bright Sight. We have captured wonderful celebrations at Dodford Manor across different seasons. Morning Preparations & Ceremonies

The Grain Store and Mortain Barn vows

Morning preparations at Dodford Manor centre on the Grain Store, which the venue also calls the Bridal Beauty Booth. It is where the bride and bridal party add the finishing touches before the ceremony, and the venue lists an en-suite shower room, large mirrors and comfortable seating there, a calm place for hair, makeup and the last few details.

Ceremonies take place inside the Mortain Barn, an ironstone barn dating to the 1680s and licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships. With its oak roof trusses, warm honey-coloured ironstone walls, stone flagged floor and timber gallery, the Mortain Barn has an atmosphere of timeless romance, and the venue describes it as bathed in natural light.

After the ceremony, guests step outside for drinks. The venue describes its courtyards as a lovely place for a summer reception and its Inner Yard as somewhere to enjoy a drink, so the ironstone buildings and open countryside around them are the natural backdrop while everyone catches up.

Charlie and Faye walked between their cheering guests as bubbles filled the air, as you can see in the photograph at the top of this page. Once the send-off was over, the warm ironstone walls of the barns gave them a quiet backdrop for a few moments together.

The Mortain Barn and glass-walled Oak Barn

One of Dodford Manor's greatest architectural strengths is the interplay between its two principal barns:

• The Mortain Barn: Dating back to the 1680s, this barn features exposed ironstone walls, stone flagged flooring, oak roof trusses and a timber gallery. It is the ceremony setting, and the venue describes it as bathed in natural light.
• The Oak Barn: The setting for the wedding breakfast, the Oak Barn combines oak framing with glass walls that give long views over the countryside, so daylight fills the room for the meal and speeches. For the evening, the Dairy Barn Bar next to it runs a pay bar and is a good place to chill out without missing the party.

As late afternoon approaches, the low sun casts a golden glow across the lawns and fields around the barns. We recommend slipping away for about fifteen minutes between your meal and evening party to capture unscripted couple portraits in the evening light.

A short walk around the grounds gives you a peaceful pause together away from the bustle of the day. Open fields and wide skies provide an expansive backdrop that looks stunning in both photographs and cinematic film.

Jess and Jack celebrated their autumn wedding here, with deep red and burnt orange bouquets that glowed against the ironstone and the greenery around the barns.

Practical planning advice for Dodford Manor

Here are key logistical tips to keep in mind when organising your celebration at Dodford Manor:

1. Travel and transport: Dodford Manor is in the village of Dodford, just north of the A45 and close to Junction 16 of the M1, about 1.5 miles from Weedon Bec and 3.5 miles from Daventry. Guests travelling by train can use Long Buckby railway station, which has London Northwestern Railway services to London Euston and Birmingham New Street.
2. Local accommodation: The venue has a Manor House B&B and works with partner hotels within 5 to 10 minutes of the barns, and nearby Weedon, Daventry and Northampton offer inns, bed and breakfasts and hotels for your other travelling guests.
3. Daylight dining: Because the Oak Barn has glass walls, daylight can fill the room for your wedding breakfast and speeches, and the glass opens the room up to long views over the countryside.
4. Evening barn party: When darkness falls, the evening centres on the Oak Barn and the Dairy Barn Bar beside it, which opens as evening guests arrive. We use bounced directional flash techniques that illuminate the dance floor and oak beams while preserving the warm, celebratory mood.
