01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

A barn restored in 2020, yours for two nights or more

The venue says the barn was thoughtfully restored in 2020 and is available for gatherings from small and intimate up to celebrations of up to 150 guests. It is hired for two nights or more, which the venue describes as giving you time to settle in, celebrate properly and make the most of your stay in the Lakes.

The setting is the other half of the picture. Fairbank sits within farmland near Staveley, with views towards the fells, and that is the landscape behind the couple in the photograph at the top of this page. The venue's website does not list individual rooms, ceremony licences, bedrooms or finish times, so ask for those in writing when you enquire or book a viewing.

Emma and Ryan: pampas grass, confetti and a field with the fells behind

Emma and Ryan married at Fairbank Barn on 13 July 2024. The photograph at the top of this page is from their time outside: Emma holds a bouquet of white roses and pampas grass high with her arm stretched out, and Ryan, in a tweed check suit, opens a bottle that sprays into the air beside a tree, with a dry-stone wall, a grassy track and rolling green hills behind them under a soft cloudy sky.

Inside, the ceremony takes place under old timber roof beams. Emma and Ryan kiss at the end of an aisle lined with posies of white and peach flowers and pampas grass, beneath a large arch of pampas grass, while their guests smile and applaud on either side.

Afterwards they walk back down the aisle hand in hand through a shower of white confetti, Emma laughing with her eyes down, holding a bouquet of white and pale pink flowers with trailing ribbons, and Ryan grinning in his tweed suit and sand-coloured knitted tie while guests throw confetti behind them.

Planning your photographs at Fairbank Barn

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Timing: The venue's website does not give ceremony or finish times, and you have the barn for two nights or more, so ask what the wedding day itself looks like. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
  2. Light and season: Emma and Ryan married in July, and the photograph on the grassy track in the field was taken under a soft cloudy sky with the hills behind them. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you before the day.
  3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask the venue where it suggests standing everyone, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.
