A rustic barn beside the River Wyre
The River Barn is at 86A Mains Lane, Poulton-le-Fylde in Lancashire (FY6 7LE). The venue says it sits against the backdrop of the River Wyre and describes the barn as a rustic wedding venue dressed with cascading greenery, rustic features and photo spots, with a Tudor manor house, five acres of grounds and woodland cabins alongside.
We photographed and filmed Hannah and Tom's wedding here on 24 August 2023. This page follows their day in photographs. Our Liverpool guide and Lake District guide both show The River Barn as a wider Lancashire option, and here we stay with the venue itself. What we say about the buildings comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.
For current venue details, explore The River Barn. Hannah and Tom married in August, so ask the venue how the barn and grounds change in other seasons.
01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description
The barn, a Tudor manor house and five acres
The venue describes four parts to the place, all exclusive to your wedding. The River Barn itself is the rustic wedding space, dressed with cascading greenery and rustic features. The Manor House, which the venue says was built in 1536, provides seven bedrooms. The grounds are five acres of tree-lined driveway, protected woodland and walled gardens. The Oak Tree Cabins are six en-suite cabins set within festoon-lit woodland.
The venue's website also mentions an on-site beauty parlour: a dressing room included on the morning of the wedding, with sofas, Prosecco, salon beauty chairs and its trademark angel wings, which it describes as a good place for photographs and getting ready. It does not give guest numbers or finish times, so ask for those in writing, and ask for a private show round, which the venue offers on request.
02 / August 2023 / Hannah and Tom
Hannah and Tom: pale oak beams, pampas grass and a sunlit lane
Hannah and Tom married at The River Barn on 24 August 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is from their ceremony setting: Hannah in a lace gown with one sheer shoulder and Tom in a pale tweed suit with a rust bow tie, holding hands in front of a tall backdrop of bare tree trunks, hanging greenery, tiny lights and pampas grass, Hannah laughing and Tom looking on beside her.
The ceremony itself is in a bright barn with pale oak beams and a vaulted roof. Hannah and Tom stand facing each other holding hands while guests look on, men in grey suits seated on one side and guests on the other, with an iron candle chandelier overhead and dried flowers and candles in the foreground. Outside, in strong late-summer sun, they raise their joined hands and arms and walk away along a tree-lined lane, Hannah's long tulle train trailing behind her and her bouquet of dried flowers held high.

03 / Staying at The River Barn / From the venue's own description
Seven manor bedrooms and six woodland cabins
The venue says the Manor House has seven bedrooms, including a honeymoon suite with a private entrance, which the venue says is included for the wedding night and has a four-poster bed, a private staircase and a grand bathroom. The six Oak Tree Cabins each have en-suite facilities, a locally sourced breakfast hamper, freshly pressed towels and bed linen, and free overnight parking, with check-in after 3.30pm and check-out before 10.30am.
For photographs, ask which rooms you can use for getting ready and when they open, so we can plan the morning around where each of you is.

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:
- Timing: The venue's website does not give ceremony or finish times, so ask for them in writing. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
- Light and season: Hannah and Tom married in late August, and the photograph on the lane was taken in bright sun with the leaves still full. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you before the day.
- Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
- Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask the venue where it suggests standing everyone, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
- Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.
- Between ceremony and portraits: Leave a little room for congratulations before family groups or portraits. Hannah and Tom's walk along the lane shows how a simple moment outdoors can feel like a celebration in itself.
One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a rustic barn, a manor house and woodland grounds is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.
The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
