A historic farm in the Conwy Valley

Hafod Farm is on Betws Road at Llanrwst in Conwy (LL26 0RA). The venue says it sits in the Conwy Valley within Snowdonia National Park, that there has been a farm on the site since the mid 16th century and that its listed buildings date from the 16th century.

We photographed and filmed Rebecca and Sam's wedding on 23 March 2024. Our Tyn Dwr Hall guide shows another North Wales venue in the same way. What we say about the farm comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Hafod Farm. The venue's own site gives current figures and policies. Check them when you enquire, because they can change from year to year.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

The Tall Barn, the New Barn and the farm around them

The venue uses two barns. The Tall Barn, which it describes as Grade II listed and around 500 years old, is the ceremony space, with a wooden floor and heating. The venue says it seats up to 100 guests and that this number includes the couple, two registrars and any photographers or videographers.

The New Barn was built in 2018 and is the reception space. The venue says it seats up to 150 for the wedding meal and holds up to 190 seated and standing in the evening. It has a licensed bar, a lounge area with vintage Chesterfield sofas and a semi-covered patio with a fire-pit.

The venue's wedding package is a two-day hire with check-in the day before and departure the day after, and it includes full use of both barns, the grounds, toilet facilities, a catering kitchen and on-site parking. It says the bar is licensed and staffed for the day and night of the wedding, and that caterers and entertainment are the two things you source yourselves.

02 / March 2024 / Rebecca and Sam

Rebecca and Sam: confetti, a mountain valley and a candlelit table

Rebecca and Sam married on 23 March 2024, with their ceremony at Penrallt Baptist Church in Bangor (LL57 2EU). The photograph at the top of this page is theirs: Rebecca in a lace gown with an orange dried-flower bouquet, kissing Sam in a grey check suit beside a stone wall, with a mountain valley rolling away behind them.

Their exit is a burst of confetti on a street, Sam laughing in a grey check waistcoat with Rebecca smiling beside him, a bridesmaid in sage green close by.

The mountains are close. Sam holds Rebecca at the waist as she looks over her shoulder at him with the valley behind them, and in a wide portrait the two of them kiss on an empty mountain road with steep slopes either side.

Back at the party, the top table is lit with candles and dressed with dried flowers in a timber-clad room, and Rebecca and Sam laugh together through the speeches.

In a quieter portrait they sit side by side on a stone doorstep in front of a whitewashed wall, Rebecca in a tulle skirt holding her bouquet and Sam in a tweed three-piece suit. At dusk they kiss on a grass track strung with festoon lights, a wooded hillside behind them.

Cottages, a farmhouse and a honeymoon suite

The venue's accommodation page says on-site accommodation sleeps up to 32 guests across converted farm buildings, with four summer-only glamping tents for a further 8. Its home page gives a smaller figure, so ask for the current number. The Cart Barn, a honeymoon suite for up to 4 with a log burner and a beamed lounge, comes with the wedding package. The Farmhouse, which the venue describes as 300 years old, sleeps up to 8, and the Stables, the Shippon, the Dairy and the Wood Cabin sleep between 4 and 6 each. Everything except the Cart Barn is an add-on.

For photographs, ask which cottage the two of you will be in and who is in each of the others, so we can plan the morning around where everyone is getting ready.

Planning your photographs at Hafod Farm

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Timing: The venue's website gives no ceremony start time, so agree your timings with the venue first. It says all music must stop by 11pm, with background music in the New Barn allowed until midnight. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around the light.
  2. A church ceremony first: Rebecca and Sam were married at Penrallt Baptist Church in Bangor, so the day moved from the church to the party. If your ceremony is in a different place from your celebration, tell us both addresses and the travel time between them once you know them, and we will plan the day around it.
  3. March light: Rebecca and Sam married in March, and their photographs show bare hillsides under soft cloud, a mountain road with no traffic and festoon lights glowing on the grass at dusk. Whatever month you choose, ask the venue which parts of the grounds are at their best then.
  4. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  5. Counting heads in the Tall Barn: The venue counts photographers and videographers in the Tall Barn's seating figure. If you book our photo and video team, tell the venue so your guest numbers allow for both of us.
  6. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask the venue where it suggests standing larger groups, and ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  7. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a listed farm, two barns and a valley of mountains is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
