A restored Victorian house and barn near Stow-on-the-Wold

Hyde House is on the Fosseway, just minutes from Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire (GL54 1FA). The venue describes a restored Victorian house and barn, available for exclusive use for weddings, private events and parties, with 20 bedrooms. The photographs show a stone house with a large patch of ivy up its front, a gravel forecourt and a path between clipped trees.

Sisi and Kin: a library, an umbrella and an ivy-covered doorway

Sisi and Kin married on 29 August 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them beside a bay window, Sisi standing in her lace gown with her bouquet and Kin seated in an armchair beside her. The day starts with the dress hanging in a bright room, and with hair and make-up at a row of bulb-lit mirrors.

Downstairs four men in black dinner suits settle into armchairs in front of a wall of books, each with a paperback open. Sisi then walks hand in hand with a woman in a red dress through a pair of open wooden doors.

The two of them stand together in the arched stone doorway beneath the ivy.

Later the whole wedding party lines up on the gravel in front of the house, with Sisi in white at the centre and guests waving and cheering.

Rain does not stop Sisi and Kin. They walk arm in arm along a gravel path between clipped trees, sharing a black umbrella and smiling down at their feet.

The day ends on the dance floor.

The Grange, the Arbour, the Barn and the gardens

The venue's spaces page names the Grange, which hosts civil ceremonies and blessings for up to 150 guests, with large bay windows, oak beams and farmhouse-style doors that fold back. It also names the Arbour, an outdoor ceremony spot under an oak arbour in the garden overlooking green fields.

The Barn is the main event space, with vaulted ceilings, double-height windows, flexible table layouts and an area for a band or DJ with direct access to the dance floor. The Bar has a long copper-topped bar and doors that open to the terrace and gardens. The House has a library and a loft with make-up stations. The venue's pages do not give a dining capacity or a licensing time, so ask the venue.

Twenty bedrooms on the property

The venue lists 20 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, with 12 in the main house and eight more in the Coach House. Some have four-poster beds or freestanding baths. The pages do not give a sleeping capacity or check-in times, so ask which rooms come with your booking and when you can have them on the morning of the wedding.

Planning your photographs at Hyde House

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Where the ceremony is: in the Grange, under the Arbour in the garden, or somewhere else nearby. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
2. Getting ready: ask when the loft with its make-up stations and your bedrooms are yours on the morning, since that is where the first photographs happen.
3. Group photographs: the gravel in front of the house is a handsome place for them. We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask someone who knows everyone to round people up.
4. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The ivy doorway, the gravel path between the clipped trees and the library and bay windows give you very different backdrops. In August, we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
5. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. Sisi and Kin's portrait walk went ahead under an umbrella, and the house itself has a library, a lounge and a bar to fall back on.

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a country house with a gravel forecourt, a barn and a library is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
