A converted barn beside the Cheshire fields
Larkspur Lodge is on Bexton Lane, Knutsford, Cheshire (WA16 9BQ). The venue describes a converted 18th century shippon barn with red brick walls, barn style windows and exposed timber trusses, offered for exclusive use, within walking distance of Knutsford town centre, with a private entrance and a large car park.
We have photographed and filmed one wedding here, Melissa and Oliver on 9 April 2022. This page follows their day in photographs. Our Cheshire guide, Manchester guide and Liverpool guide show Larkspur Lodge beside other north west venues, and here we stay with the barn itself. What we say about the buildings comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.
For current venue details, explore Larkspur Lodge. Our wedding here was in April, so ask the venue how the lawn and the outdoor spaces work in the months you are considering.
01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description
A cinema room for ceremonies, a bar lounge and a bowling green lawn
The venue lists several spaces. The Lodge Room is light and open, with exposed red brick walls, and seats up to 150 day guests, extending to 180 for the evening. A large bar and lounge adjoins it, with Chesterfield sofas and a 24 foot bar. The venue says the Old Cinema Room, an amphitheatre style ceremony space with retro theatre seats, monochrome floor tiles and twinkling lights over the original oak trusses, is licensed for civil ceremonies and seats up to 150.
Outside, the Bowling Green is a lawned garden with larkspur flowers around its edge and trees behind, which the venue offers for drinks, lawn games, photographs and, in the warmer months, outdoor ceremonies. The Garden Room is an extension with comfortable seating, a covered terrace and a wood burning stove, and the Loft is a preparation room with beauty stations, plenty of seating and natural light.
The venue says its caterers are Fork and Field, and that your band or DJ can play until midnight. It also says you can choose not to use the Old Cinema Room if you would rather marry in a church or chapel nearby.
02 / April 2022 / Melissa and Oliver
Melissa and Oliver: hugs, candles and a speech that made her cry
Melissa and Oliver married at Larkspur Lodge on 9 April 2022. The photograph at the top of this page is from their portraits: Oliver in a black morning coat and Melissa in an off the shoulder gown and veil, foreheads together and Melissa smiling with her eyes closed, in front of a leafy hedge with the sun catching it from one side.
In the morning, Melissa sits in a white lace trimmed robe with a champagne flute in her hand and a big smile, while a woman with long hair curls her hair, both reflected in a mirror.

Later, in black and white, she hugs a man in a dark suit with her veil falling down her back, his face pressed against her shoulder, a bare light bulb hanging in the room behind them.

At the ceremony, Oliver and Melissa kiss in a room lit by strings of fairy lights beneath timber beams and hanging rings of greenery with bulbs, with candles in lanterns on a black and white chequered floor and guests smiling and clapping on either side. Melissa holds his face in her hands.

At the meal, Oliver stands reading his speech beneath pendant light bulbs against a red brick wall. Melissa looks up at him through tears and a smile, an older woman in a floral top laughs beside her and an older man looks on.

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:
- Timing: The venue says music can run until midnight. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them with the venue and we will plan the portrait walk around them, including how long you want away from your guests.
- Season and light: Our wedding here was in April, with a candlelit ceremony and portraits against a hedge in low sun. The Bowling Green lawn is the venue's outdoor space for photographs, so ask how it looks on your date.
- Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The venue's Garden Room has a covered terrace and a wood burning stove, which is worth asking about. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
- Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The venue offers its lawn for photographs; ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
- Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.
One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a brick barn with a ceremony room, a bar lounge and a lawn is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.
The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
