Leez Priory is at Hartford End, Great Leighs, near Chelmsford in Essex (CM3 1JP). The venue describes it as a Tudor manor house set in 40 acres of parkland, with a sweeping driveway, manicured lawns and lakes, and says the house and grounds are yours exclusively for the day. It is part of the Country House Weddings collection.

We photographed and filmed Sophie and Jake's wedding here on 10 October 2025. It is the day in this guide, and the red brick of the tower and the archways does a lot of the work in the photographs.

Sophie and Jake: a red-brick tower, bridesmaids in red and a kiss under the arch

Sophie and Jake married on 10 October 2025. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them walking out hand in hand in front of the tower, in black and white, with their guests seated behind them. The tower is tall and turreted, and the rows of chairs on the lawn in front of it show how much space the lawn gives a ceremony.

Later the two of them stop in front of a carved brick archway, Sophie in a long veil, and kiss.

Eight ceremony settings, the Great Hall and the Coach House

The venue's ceremony page lists eight settings: three indoor and five outdoor. The indoor ones are the Great Hall, with a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and a feature fireplace, the Coach House Barn, and the inside of the Great Tower. The outdoor ones include settings under the Tower, beneath the main carriageway of the manor, and a newer option facing the lake. The venue says any indoor option can be the wet weather backup.

For dining, the venue names the Great Hall and, for larger parties, the Coach House. Its main page lists a day capacity of 110 and an evening capacity of 250. It describes a converted cellar as a dance floor, an inner courtyard with a croquet lawn, two lakes, a brook and wooded areas that it suggests for photographs.

The venue lists 25 bedrooms, including three lodges in the grounds, reserved for you on your wedding night, and a cottage where the bride and bridesmaids can stay the night before. Its main page gives an accommodation capacity of 54. Ask which rooms come with your booking and when you can have them on the morning of the wedding.

Planning your photographs at Leez Priory

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

1. Which ceremony setting: the Tower, the carriageway, the lake or one of the indoor rooms. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
2. Getting ready: ask where you and your people will be and from what time, since that is where the first photographs happen.
3. Rain: the venue says any indoor ceremony option can be your backup. Agree the wet weather plan when you confirm the order of the day.
4. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The lawn in front of the tower has plenty of room.
5. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The tower, the archways and the lakes give you very different backdrops. In October daylight is shorter, so we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
