Vicki and Ruaridh: a weeping willow, a brick barn and an orange cowboy hat

Vicki and Ruaridh married on 12 August 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them kissing on a lawn beneath the hanging branches of a weeping willow, Ruaridh in a navy jacket and tartan trousers. The morning starts in a bright room, where Vicki has her hair pinned up on a director's chair and then shares a moment with a large dark dog.

A smiling bride in a fitted white gown with a plunging neckline steps through a wooden door into a white-walled room

Later Vicki and Ruaridh walk hand in hand down the aisle of a brick barn between seated guests, and afterwards they stand together in the timber porch of an ivy-covered stone building at the end of a gravel path, with tall clipped trees on either side.

The evening is on the dance floor in the brick barn, where Ruaridh spins Vicki in front of tall windows, and she pulls an orange cowboy hat down over her face while guests clap.

The Threshing Barn, the Cow Shed and the garden

The venue's pages say it is licensed for civil marriages and blessings, and name three ceremony options: the Threshing Barn for up to 120 guests, the Cow Shed, and a garden ceremony area beside the stone farmhouse, framed by a willow tree. The Cow Shed is given as up to 180 guests on the weddings page and up to 150 on the civil ceremonies page, so confirm the number with the venue.

For the reception the venue lists the Threshing Barn, the Cow Shed or a marquee of your choice on the paddock, with a permanent tipi included for use through the wedding day. The Threshing Barn page gives a seated reception for up to 80 and a drinks reception for up to 150, with exposed stone and timbers, flagstone floors and underfloor heating. The venue says couples can choose caterers from its recommended list or bring their own.

Planning your photographs at Norton Grounds

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Where the ceremony is: the Threshing Barn, the Cow Shed or the garden ceremony area. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning around it.
  2. Getting ready: ask when the accommodation is yours on the morning, since that is where the first photographs happen.
  3. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose somewhere with room and a sheltered backup, and ask someone who knows everyone to round people up.
  4. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The lawn and willow, the gravel path with its clipped trees and the ivy-covered porch give you very different backdrops. In August, we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
  5. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The barns are the covered spaces the venue lists.
