A hotel with a garden gazebo and twelve gardens in Quorn

Quorn Grange Hotel is at 88 Wood Lane, Quorn, Leicestershire (LE12 8DB). The venue describes itself as in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside on the fringe of the National Forest, and says its gardens are among the largest in Quorn, divided into 12 separate gardens. Its wedding page lists an outdoor Gazebo, a refurbished Goodacre Suite and an Oak Panel Room, with in-house chefs and a dedicated wedding coordinator.

We photographed Tilly and James's wedding on 22 October 2021, and their day is the one in this guide. They married in a stone church rather than at the hotel, so the photographs here follow a vintage car, confetti on the grass, portraits in a garden and a first dance with sparklers after dark. The hotel's own ceremony spaces are described in the next section from its website, and none of them appear in these pictures. Our Leicester guide shows more weddings in the county, and here we stay with the hotel. What we say about the spaces comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the photographs comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Quorn Grange Hotel. This wedding was in late October, so ask the venue how the gardens and the gazebo look and work in other seasons.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

A garden gazebo, the Goodacre Suite and twelve gardens

The venue's wedding page lists three spaces. The Gazebo is outdoors in what it calls its Romantic Gardens, and it seats up to 120 people. The Goodacre Suite is indoors and recently refurbished, with room for up to 120 guests for a ceremony or sit-down meal and up to 180 for an evening reception. The Oak Panel Room is also named as a wedding space, but the page gives no capacity or other details for it.

The venue's grounds page describes 12 separate gardens, with a croquet garden, a boules court and a putting green, and says an on-site marquee is available for bad weather. Its home page lists over 90 parking bays, and the wedding page says its chefs cook in-house with locally sourced ingredients. The pages we read do not give finishing times or a bedroom count, so ask for both in writing.

02 / October 2021 / Tilly and James

Tilly and James: a vintage car, confetti outside the church and sparklers after dark

Tilly and James married on 22 October 2021. The photograph at the top of this page shows them walking hand in hand across the grass outside the church, Tilly in a lace gown with a trailing bouquet and James in a navy suit with a pink tie, laughing as guests on both sides throw petals.

Earlier, Tilly steps out of a cream vintage car in a lace gown and veil, smiling, while the driver in a peaked cap holds her bouquet. Inside the church, the two of them stand at the front facing the altar beneath tall stone arches, with their guests in the pews on both sides.

Outside, the guests line up in two rows on the lawn with the church and its clock tower behind them. Tilly and James kiss in the middle of the line, with petals still in the air and people smiling on either side.

Later the two of them sit in the back of the vintage car and touch glasses, both laughing, with pink flowers and Tilly's bouquet filling the front of the frame. On the lawn, with a tall clipped hedge behind them, James kisses Tilly as her long, sheer veil streams out to one side.

Beside the trunk of a large tree, with a garden of clipped hedges and shrubs behind them, James kisses Tilly on the forehead.

Their first dance is on a white floor lit with small lights, with fairy lights draped overhead and guests watching from all sides. After dark they stand face to face, each holding a sparkler, while their guests lift sparklers around them. The evening frames are darker and more contrasty than the daytime ones, which is how a lit room and a night outdoors tend to look.

Planning your photographs at Quorn Grange Hotel

Some questions worth putting to the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Church and hotel: Tilly and James married in a church. If you do too, tell us how long the journey to the hotel takes, so we can photograph the confetti, travel on and be ready when you arrive.
  2. Confetti: The petals gave us some of the best frames of this day. A church often has its own rules about confetti, so check with the church as well as the hotel.
  3. Marrying on site: The venue lists the Gazebo and the Goodacre Suite for up to 120 each, and an Oak Panel Room with no details given. Ask which suits your numbers and what the plan is if the weather turns.
  4. Group photographs: We typically recommend around 15 groups, which usually take about 20 minutes. With 12 gardens to choose from, agree a spot with room and a sheltered backup, and ask someone who knows everyone to gather your guests.
  5. Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. Clipped hedges and an old tree gave this couple very different backdrops within a few steps.
  6. After dark: Sparklers and a first dance both came late in the day. Ask the venue whether sparklers are allowed and where, and when the first dance usually happens, so we can plan the light for both.

Where is Quorn Grange Hotel?

At 88 Wood Lane, Quorn, Leicestershire (LE12 8DB), near Loughborough. Our Leicester guide shows more weddings in the county, and this page gives the hotel a story of its own.

Where can the ceremony be held?

The venue lists an outdoor Gazebo in its gardens and the indoor Goodacre Suite, and names an Oak Panel Room as a wedding space without giving details. Tilly and James married in a church. Ask the venue which of its spaces suits your numbers.

How many guests can the hotel hold?

What happens if it rains?
