A white Georgian house in Staffordshire

Somerford Hall is at Brewood, near Stafford in Staffordshire. In our photographs and film from there it is a white, three-storey house with a pedimented front and low wings, standing on a wide lawn among mature trees.

We photographed and filmed Bethany and Mark's wedding here on 3 July 2021. This page follows the day through our photographs, and the highlight film plays further down the page. Our Staffordshire guide shows the county beside other venues, and here we stay with this one house. We could not load the venue's own website when we wrote this page, so what we say about the house comes from looking at our photographs and film, and we have left out capacities, bedrooms and timings.

For current venue details, explore Somerford Hall. The venue's website did not load when we wrote this page, so please ask the venue directly for its current details and prices.

01 / The setting / As seen in our photographs and film

Tall windows, a lawn and a garden pavilion

Our photographs and film show a house of tall sash windows and white walls. Inside, the rooms are pale and bright, with ornate mirrors, long curtains and views out to the trees. Outside there is a wide lawn, a garden pavilion with rows of white chairs set out for a ceremony, woodland to walk through and a white marquee on the grass.

02 / July 2021 / Bethany and Mark

Bethany and Mark: grey skies, white flowers and a marquee at dusk

Bethany and Mark were married at Somerford Hall on 3 July 2021. The photograph at the top of this page shows them walking hand in hand through a shower of petals in front of the white house, both smiling, Bethany holding a bouquet of white roses and Mark in a blue tweed suit with a white rose buttonhole, with guests on either side. The day is told here in photographs, and the highlight film plays further down the page.

Before the ceremony, in a pale room with framed prints and a white panelled door, Bethany stands in her lace gown facing a man in a blue tweed suit who smiles at her with his hand held out.

The ceremony is in a bright room with tall windows, ornate mirrors and white flowers hanging from above. Mark looks down as the two of them hold hands to exchange rings, with their guests seated behind them, some wearing face masks.

On the wooden floor, among scattered white petals, a large black and tan dog stands beside a smaller fawn dog lying down, both beside the feet of seated guests. Then Bethany and Mark sit at a white-clothed table to sign the register, both smiling, with white hydrangeas and glass candle holders beside them.

Later, under a grey sky, Mark leads Bethany by the hand across the wide lawn, her long train following her, with the white front of the hall, its chimneys and its low wings behind them and tall trees on both sides.

Planning your photographs at Somerford Hall

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Timing: Ask the venue for its ceremony times, the order of the day and when the end of the evening is, in writing. Tell us your timings once you have agreed them and we will plan the portraits around them.
  2. Season and light: Our wedding here was in early July under a soft, cloudy sky, and our photographs and film show sparklers in the garden as the light fades. The film also shows fireworks. Ask the venue about evening plans if you want something similar.
  3. Rain: Agree an indoor or sheltered option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. Our photographs and film show a garden pavilion, tall-windowed rooms indoors and a marquee on the lawn, so ask which of them the venue would use for your date. On the day we settle it together with you and the venue.
  4. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask a groomsman or bridesmaid who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Getting ready: If you and your partner are in different places, we move between you together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes.
