A Regency house on the edge of Roundhay Park

The Mansion is on Mansion Lane at Roundhay, Leeds (LS8 2HH). The venue's home page describes a Regency building from the 1820s, listed at Grade II, with a colonnaded grand entrance and views over the Upper Lake in Roundhay Park, which it puts at 700 acres. It says Leeds city centre is about 15 minutes away.

The Mansion is part of the Dine group, and its wedding page says every wedding uses an exclusive private entrance and terrace. A couple arriving by wedding car can pull up to the front door.

We photographed and filmed one wedding here: Sally and Lewis on 25 September 2023. Their day is the one in this guide, from a bride by a window to a couple in front of the tall columns.

01 / September 2023 / Sally and Lewis

Sally and Lewis: a window, an aisle and tall columns

Sally and Lewis married on 25 September 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them arm in arm on the lawn, Sally holding a bouquet of peach roses and Lewis in a black tuxedo with a bow tie, in front of the tall columns of the house. Earlier, Sally stands beside a window in an off-the-shoulder lace gown and a jewelled headband, with a cascading bouquet of peach roses and white orchids.

The ceremony is in a room with chandeliers overhead and guests seated on both sides of the aisle. In the photograph, a man in a blue checked jacket steps forward with Sally beside him to greet Lewis at the end of the aisle.

Their highlight film is on this page as well.

Three more photographs show the parkland. Lewis lifts Sally in her wide white skirt as she laughs, trees behind them. They stand arm in arm on the drive in front of the white stone mansion and its tall columned portico, Sally holding a peach bouquet, guests on the terrace behind. And seen from behind, they walk hand in hand along a path through the parkland, Sally's veil falling down her back.

02 / The spaces / From the venue's own page

The Colonnades Room, the Mansion Room and the terrace

The venue's wedding page says civil ceremonies take place in the Colonnades Room, which guests enter by a grand double staircase and which has floor-to-ceiling windows along its full length, opening onto the terrace. The wedding breakfast and party are in the Mansion Room on the first floor, reached by a sweeping staircase beneath a cascading chandelier, with views across the park through the original sash windows. The venue says the room is decorated to complement most colour schemes and can be transformed to suit your own style.

The page lists capacities of 220 for civil ceremonies, 134 for the wedding breakfast and 250 for evening guests, and says live music is possible. After the ceremony, drinks are on the terrace overlooking the parkland. The page says woodland, formal gardens, lakes and bandstands are all within a few metres, which keeps a portrait walk short.

Parking, packages and cultural weddings

The home page says the venue offers parking and full disabled access, and it lists separate entrances for wedding and event guests, deliveries and the cafe, each with a what3words reference. The wedding prices page sets out three collections, each based on 60 guests, with an event manager and planning support included in all three.

For cultural weddings, the wedding page offers exclusive hire of the whole house for either 8 or 15 hours, finishing up to midnight, with nominated outside caterers and Dine's Gujarati and Punjabi fusion menus. The venue also promotes winter weddings, describing enormous windows with open views across Roundhay Park. Neither page gives a finish time for other weddings or mentions bedrooms, so ask about both.

Planning your photographs at The Mansion

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. The ceremony: the Colonnades Room is reached by the grand double staircase and opens onto the terrace through its long run of windows. The venue lists 220 for civil ceremonies. Tell us the time and we will arrange the morning around it.
  2. Getting ready: the pages do not mention bedrooms or where couples prepare, so ask the venue, and tell us the address and times so we can plan the first photographs.
  3. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The Colonnades Room, the two staircases and the Mansion Room are the indoor spaces the venue names, so group photographs have indoor choices.
  4. Group photographs: drinks are on the terrace straight after the ceremony, so it is the natural place to gather everyone. We do as many photographs as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Choose a spot with a sheltered backup.
  5. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The lawn in front of the columns, the terrace, and the woodland, formal gardens, lakes and bandstands the venue says are within a few metres give you very different backdrops. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a Regency house with a colonnaded front, a chandeliered room and a terrace over parkland is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
