A barn beside the Priory ruins and the River Wharfe
The Tithe Barn is on the Bolton Abbey estate, near Skipton in North Yorkshire (BD23 6EX). The estate describes it as a barn 55 metres long, built in the early 16th century and overlooking the Priory ruins, the River Wharfe and the Stepping Stones, and says guests have been welcomed to the priory since it was founded in 1154. The barn's own website adds that it is Grade II* listed and one of the largest exclusive-use wedding venues in the UK. It is one of several wedding spaces on the estate, which also lists the Priory Church and marquee weddings.
We photographed and filmed Amber and Will's wedding here on 30 July 2025, and their day is the one in this guide, in photographs and in their highlight film.
For current venue details, explore The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey. Ask the barn's team about minimum guest numbers and parking for wedding guests, which its website does not state.
01 / July 2025 / Amber and Will
Amber and Will: a toast, a veil, a timbered barn and a sunny path
Amber and Will married on 30 July 2025. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them embracing on a lawn beneath tall trees. The day begins in two bright rooms: Will and his groomsmen raise their glasses beside floral curtains, and Amber, in black and white, stands at a window while a woman straightens her veil.

Inside the timbered barn, Amber and Will kiss over a table of white flowers while their guests cheer. Afterwards they walk out through an arched stone doorway, in black and white.

On a sunny path they walk smiling past guests who clap as they go.

03 / The setting / From the estate's and the barn's own pages
A flagstone barn with a terrace over the Priory ruins
The barn's website says ceremonies take place in the main barn and, in summer, outdoors on the terrace, which looks over the Priory ruins. It is licensed for civil ceremonies for up to 200 seated guests, and its capacity is 200 for the ceremony and the feast and 300 for drinks and dancing. Couples who marry at a local church can hold the celebration in the barn afterwards. The estate describes the Priory Church as the local parish church, originally the nave of the Priory, which survived the dissolution of the monasteries.
Inside, the venue describes a flagstone floor, an elevated ceiling, medieval-style chandeliers, fairy lights in the beams and Moroccan stools around the bar, with underfloor heating, fires and candles for warmth and outdoor fire pits for guests outside. Food is cooked in an open kitchen with indoor barbecues and rotisseries. All food and drink is provided in-house and couples cannot bring their own caterers, but they are encouraged to attend a Feast Night to taste the food and see the barn first.
Booking gives you the barn for the day. You can decorate it yourself or use the venue's decoration packages, play your own playlist through its lighting and sound system, or bring a DJ or a live band, and the barn has a late licence until 1am. Changes can be made until eight weeks before the wedding, and the venue recommends wedding insurance.

A few things worth asking the estate, and how we would plan around the answers:
- Where the ceremony is: In the main barn, on the terrace in summer, or at the Priory Church with the celebration in the barn afterwards. Tell us your plan so we can arrange the morning, the travel and the first photographs around it.
- Where you get ready: The barn has no bedrooms of its own, so you will be getting ready at a hotel or house nearby. Tell us where, and how far it is from the barn, so we can plan the morning around the journey.
- Rain: The barn's website puts ceremonies in the main barn, with the terrace as the summer outdoor option, so ask the team when the choice between them has to be made. The barn is a big covered space for portraits and group photographs if the weather turns.
- Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The lawn and the paths give you room, and a sheltered backup is worth agreeing in advance.
- Portraits: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The lawns, the trees, the stone doorways and the river give you very different backdrops, and the terrace looks over the Priory ruins.
One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a long timbered barn, a stone doorway and a lawn under tall trees are familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.
The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
