A countryside wedding venue at Moorwood Moor

The White Hart Inn is at Inns Lanes, Moorwood Moor, near Alfreton in Derbyshire (DE55 7NU). It is part of the Moorwood Collection, and the venue's wedding page describes a countryside wedding venue, restaurant and hotel with three function rooms, set in rolling Derbyshire countryside within easy reach of Derby, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Nottingham.

We filmed Hayley and Billy's wedding here on 2 January 2022. The page tells the day through the film, so the highlight film at the top is the way to see it.

Hayley and Billy: the day told through the film

We filmed Hayley and Billy's wedding at The White Hart Inn on 2 January 2022. There are no photographs from their day on this page, so the highlight film at the top is the way to see it.

The still on the film card shows Hayley and Billy touching foreheads in a brick passageway, Hayley holding a bouquet of white flowers. Press play to watch the rest of the day.

02 / The spaces / From the venue's own pages

The Moorwood Suite, the Orangery and the grounds

The venue's wedding page says it is fully licensed to host civil ceremonies, in the Moorwood Suite for up to 100 guests or the Orangery for up to 70. It lists the wedding breakfast in the Moorwood Suite for up to 120 guests and evening celebrations for up to 200.

Its outdoor ceremonies brochure describes a new outdoor ceremony space in the grounds, starting in spring 2026, for up to 120 guests and available from April to September. The booking includes the ceremony area, a backdrop, seating and exclusive use of the terrace for arrival drinks, and you can choose live acoustic music or recorded music. If the weather is unsuitable, the ceremony moves to the Orangery or the Moorwood Suite, and the venue's wedding team contacts you the night before. The outdoor space was not an option for Hayley and Billy's January 2022 wedding.

Couples arrange registrar attendance themselves, through Amber Valley registrars, and the venue suggests checking your date with it first. Confirm all figures with the venue in writing.

04 / Staying at The White Hart / From the venue's own pages

Fourteen bedrooms on site

The venue says booking a wedding reserves two pre-bridal suites for the night before and 14 guest bedrooms for the wedding night at a discounted rate, and you can decide later whether to use them. The honeymoon suite is complimentary on the wedding night once your date is confirmed. For more guest rooms it points to The Horse & Jockey, which it says is about 5 minutes away with a further 14 bedrooms, subject to availability.

The accommodation page lists countryside suites, premium suites with jacuzzi baths and Juliet balconies, and The Hart Suite. It says breakfast is included in every room rate, check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am, and parking on site is free for all guests, with three electric vehicle charging points for a small extra charge.

03 / Food, drink and packages / From the venue's own pages

In-house catering, seasonal packages and pets

All catering and bar service is in house, with canapes, three-course meals, barbecues, pizza ovens and seasonal drinks packages, and the venue does not allow outside catering or drinks apart from a wedding cake or an alternative. It also offers an in-house venue dressing service called Styled With Hart.

The venue publishes seasonal packages: a winter package for November and December 2026 based on 45 day guests and 65 evening guests, a spring and summer package for March to September 2027, and a Twilight evening package for 70 guests with venue hire from 4pm. The winter package lists exclusive use of the grounds for photos; the others do not mention the grounds, so ask what your package includes. Its FAQs add that past couples have included dogs, horses and alpacas in their day, and that pets are not allowed in guest rooms.

Planning your photographs at The White Hart Inn

The venue's pages settle most of the layout questions. Here is how we would plan around them:

  1. Which room: tell us whether the ceremony is in the Moorwood Suite (up to 100), the Orangery (up to 70) or, between April and September, outdoors (up to 120), so we can plan the morning and the first photographs around it.
  2. Group photographs: we do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask someone who knows everyone to round people up. For an outdoor ceremony the venue gives you exclusive use of the terrace for arrival drinks, so ask whether groups can be gathered there too.
  3. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The venue's winter package lists exclusive use of the grounds for photos, so ask whether your package does too and which parts of the grounds you can use on your date.
  4. Rain: for an outdoor ceremony the venue says it moves indoors to the Orangery or the Moorwood Suite and tells you the night before, so plan for both. For an indoor ceremony, agree where portraits would go if it is wet when you confirm the order of the day.
  5. Winter dates: outdoor ceremonies run from April to September, so a January ceremony at the venue is an indoor one. Daylight is short, so keep outdoor photographs close to the building. We check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
  6. Getting there: the venue says parking on site is free for hotel guests, and its pages do not mention a car park for day guests or a station, so ask the venue about both.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a countryside inn with an orangery and its own grounds is familiar territory. You get one conversation about the timetable, one set of questions for the venue and one plan for the portrait walk.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.
