Kate and Josh: a curtained window, a cheer and a tree-lined drive

Kate and Josh married on 9 June 2023. The photograph at the top of this page is the two of them laughing together on a road lined with tall green trees, Kate holding a pink and white bouquet. Earlier in the day, in black and white, Josh straightens his tie beside a tall curtained window.

Kate and Josh walk through a pair of tall white double doors with their arms raised, both laughing, and later stand on the lawn looking at each other, with the stone hall and its tall chimneys behind them.

The Moncreiffe Suite, the Mordaunt Suite, the Courtyard Suite and the chapel

The venue's wedding page names three ground-floor suites. The Moncreiffe Suite has fireplace doors opening onto the grounds and is described as a venue for up to 120 guests. The Mordaunt Suite is suited to more intimate weddings, with up to 60 guests. The Courtyard Suite has its own private entrance, bar and outdoor terrace. The pages give several different figures for the Courtyard Suite, from 150 to 200, so confirm the numbers with the venue.

The page lists ceremonies in any of the three suites, an outdoor ceremony with the hall as the backdrop and an on-site chapel called St James. It does not give the chapel's capacity or a ceremony licence, so ask the venue. The venue says the hotel has 197 bedrooms, including 37 in the historic hall, and the wedding page mentions preferential guest rates for pre-wedding and post-wedding stays.

Planning your photographs at Walton Hall

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Where the ceremony is: one of the suites, the chapel or outdoors with the hall behind you. Tell us your plan and the timings so we can arrange the morning around them.
  2. Getting ready: ask which rooms are yours on the morning and from what time, since the first photographs happen there.
  3. Rain: agree an indoor option with the venue when you confirm the order of the day. The suites and the chapel are the covered spaces the venue names.
  4. Group photographs: the lawn in front of the hall gives you room. We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. Ask someone who knows everyone to round people up.
  5. Portraits: we usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. The gravel terrace, the lawn and the tree-lined drive give you very different backdrops. In June, we check sunset and light times for your date in advance and agree the plan with you.
