A 19th century house and garden gazebo in Southam

Warwick House is at 10 Warwick Road in Southam, Warwickshire (CV47 0HN). The venue's own website describes a 19th century building set in trees and landscaped gardens with a terrace, hired for the whole wedding with nobody else on site, and says it has hosted more than 4,000 weddings. Its pages list a gazebo for outdoor ceremonies, two indoor ceremony rooms and bedrooms for the couple and their guests.

We photographed Dan and Hannah's wedding here on 3 August 2021, and their day is the one in this guide: a ceremony in the white gazebo, a walk back through bubbles, and portraits that took them as far as a windmill and a wheat field. Our Warwickshire guide shows more weddings in the county, and here we stay with one house and one couple. What we say about the rooms comes from the venue's own website, and what we say about the pictures comes from looking at them.

For current venue details, explore Warwick House. This wedding was in early August, so ask the venue how the gardens and the gazebo look in other months and which dates it offers for outdoor ceremonies.

01 / The spaces / From the venue's own description

A gazebo in the sunken garden, two ceremony rooms and a banqueting hall

The venue's ceremony page lists three places to marry. The outdoor ceremony area is in the sunken garden, with a gazebo, for up to 150 guests. The Banqueting Hall, which it calls a bright room lined with large windows overlooking the terrace gardens, is listed for up to 150. The Warwick Room, for more intimate ceremonies, is listed for up to 60. The home page describes the gazebo as fully licensed for outdoor ceremonies and the Warwick Room as a licensed ceremony room.

The same Banqueting Hall also serves for the wedding breakfast and the evening reception, with its own bar and dance floor, and its doors open onto the terrace above the sunken garden. Hiring the house is exclusive: the venue says you have the entire building and grounds, with no sections shared. Its capacities page quotes different layout figures (up to 180 theatre-style in the Banqueting Hall, for example), so ask for the numbers that apply to your date in writing.

For overnight stays the venue lists sixteen bedrooms, including a Honeymoon Suite with a four-poster bed, kept for the couple and their guests, though one page says fifteen, so ask which is current. Its food pages mention a team of chefs, three menu tiers called Inclusive, Deluxe and Supreme, a vegan menu, hog roasts and world buffets, and canapés served while photographs are taken. The pages we read do not give finishing times or prices, so ask for both.

02 / August 2021 / Dan and Hannah

Dan and Hannah: a white gazebo, bubbles on the way out and portraits at a windmill

Dan and Hannah married on 3 August 2021. The lead photograph on this page shows them walking hand in hand out of the ceremony through a cloud of bubbles, Hannah in a lace gown with a bouquet of pink and white flowers and Dan in a navy suit with a grey waistcoat, the gazebo behind them and their guests blowing bubbles on both sides.

The ceremony was in the gazebo, a white lattice pavilion in a hedged garden, with the guests seated on chairs on the lawn outside. Dan kisses Hannah at the front as the guests applaud. A little later the two of them sit at a white table inside the gazebo, both smiling and looking down at the book in front of them, with Hannah's bouquet on the table between them.

A groom in a dark suit and a smiling bride sit at a white table in the gazebo, looking down as a bouquet of pink and white flowers rests in front of them

Then they walk back along the paved path between the rows of chairs, each one tied with a blush sash, hand in hand and both smiling while the guests clap on either side.

Their portraits start in the garden. On a white metal arbour seat, with round blue flowers and dark hedging behind, Hannah's hair piece catches the light as the two of them turn to look at each other.

The portraits then take them further out, to the stone arches of a windmill, where they kiss in the gap between two massive piers with fields and woodland spread out below, and to a field of ripe wheat, where they kiss again under a wide grey sky with Hannah's bouquet held low.

The album also holds a detail of the day's tables: a round table with beaded silver plates, paper butterflies and a tall white blossom tree at its centre, the chairs dressed in blush sashes with pink roses. We do not know which room it was, so ask the venue which of its rooms suits the size of your wedding breakfast.

Planning your photographs at Warwick House

A few things worth asking the venue, and how we would plan around the answers:

  1. Gazebo ceremony: Dan and Hannah married in the gazebo with their guests seated on the lawn in front of it. Ask the venue how many people it seats for an outdoor ceremony on your date, how its chairs are laid out and who decides on the day whether you move indoors.
  2. Bubbles and confetti: The walk out through bubbles gave this couple their lead photograph. Ask the venue what it allows you to throw, and hand the bubbles to someone who will start them just before you step out.
  3. Off-site portraits: Dan and Hannah's portraits took them as far as a windmill and a wheat field, which means a drive. If you want something similar, tell us early so the timetable has room for the journey, and ask the venue which parts of its own grounds are open for photographs.
  4. Drinks reception: The venue's food pages say canapés are served while photographs are taken. Ask how long the drinks reception runs, so the portrait walk and the group photographs fit around it.
  5. Group photographs: We do as many as you like and typically recommend around 15, which usually take about 20 minutes. The gazebo and the sunken garden are good places to ask about, and a relative who knows everyone makes the lining up quicker.
  6. Portrait walk: We usually take a portrait walk of about 15 minutes, with photo and video together. Longer sessions are possible if the order of the day allows, and we agree the plan with you before the day.

One team for the photographs and the film

Cam and Beth, the Bright Sight photo and video duo

Cam and Beth have photographed and filmed over 400 weddings together, so a garden ceremony, a portrait walk that leaves the grounds and a table set for the wedding breakfast are all familiar. One booking, one timetable and one conversation with the venue cover both the photographs and the film.

The photo and video team package carries a £120 deposit and a £400 saving over booking photography and videography separately. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages. When the drive is over two hours we always stay in a hotel the night before and cover it.

Do you photograph and film weddings at Warwick House?

Yes. We photographed a wedding at Warwick House in August 2021. Send us your date and we will tell you whether we are free. Travel across England and Wales is included in standard full-day packages.

Can we marry in the gazebo?

The venue's ceremony page lists an outdoor ceremony area in the sunken garden with a gazebo, and its home page describes the gazebo as fully licensed for outdoor ceremonies. Dan and Hannah were married in it. Ask the venue which dates and months it offers for outdoor ceremonies.

How many guests can Warwick House hold?

The venue's ceremony page lists up to 150 guests in the Banqueting Hall, up to 60 in the Warwick Room and up to 150 in the outdoor ceremony area. Other pages on the site give different figures, so ask for the current numbers for your date in writing.

Can guests stay at Warwick House?

The venue lists the Banqueting Hall and the Warwick Room as indoor ceremony rooms. The pages we read do not describe its wet-weather plan, so ask when the decision to move indoors is made.
