Bright Sight planning guide

Do wedding photographers and videographers charge for travel?

Travel across England and Wales is included in our package prices. When the drive is over two hours we stay in a hotel the night before and cover it, and a wedding abroad is £450, free on larger bookings. This guide explains how it works.

The short answer

With us, there is no travel fee in England or Wales. Travel is included in your package price for a venue anywhere in England and Wales. We are based near Cardiff.

Other photographers and videographers handle it differently, and some add travel or accommodation as an extra. It is a fair thing to ask every supplier before you compare prices.

What included travel covers

Included means the journey to your venue, anywhere in England and Wales. It is built into your package price, not added to your total.

That means the price on a package page, or the total in a calculator, is the price for a wedding in Kent, Cornwall or Cumbria alike.

When the drive is over two hours we stay in a hotel the night before and cover that too. It is part of how we plan the day, not an extra for you.

Why we stay overnight on long journeys

A long drive on the morning of a wedding leaves little room for the unexpected. Staying the night before means traffic cannot affect us. On the morning of the wedding we look around the venue, indoor spaces included, and work closely with the venue and coordinator.

When we do travel up on the morning itself, we leave with a huge buffer on the expectation that we might run into traffic. It has never failed us yet, and in over 400 weddings we have never missed a day.

Weddings abroad

Destination weddings in Europe are fine with us. Travel and accommodation abroad come to £450, and it is free on larger bookings. The calculators on our package pages show when the abroad option is free for the package you are looking at.

Tell us the country, date and venue in your enquiry and we will talk it through. For a destination wedding it helps to share your plans for the days around the ceremony, such as a welcome gathering or a relaxed morning, so we can plan the coverage with you.

Questions to ask any photographer about travel

Ask whether travel is included in the quote or added later, whether accommodation is covered for a long journey, and what the plan is if there is traffic on the morning. Our answers are above, and the same questions work for any supplier.

Our guide to questions to ask a wedding photographer has a longer list for comparing suppliers side by side.

A venue we have never been to

Despite capturing over 400 weddings, you might be surprised to learn that most couples who book us marry at a venue we have never photographed.

On request we send sample galleries or films from your venue. We talk through the venue layout and any officiant rules on our planning call, and on the morning of the wedding we look around the venue, indoor spaces included, and work closely with the venue and coordinator. Our guide to photographers who have not been to your venue explains more.

If you are still deciding

Send your date and venue and we will confirm availability. If you are comparing prices from different parts of the country, our guide to whether prices change by region shows how ours work, and our cost guide lists every package.

When you are ready, send an enquiry with your date and venue and we will reply within a few hours. An enquiry does not reserve your date; the £120 deposit does, once you are happy to go ahead.

Questions couples ask

Do wedding photographers charge for travel?

It depends on the supplier, so ask before you compare quotes. With us, travel across England and Wales is included in your package price, and we stay in a hotel the night before when the drive is over two hours.

Do you charge extra for a wedding far from Cardiff?

Within England and Wales, no. We are based near Cardiff, and travel across England and Wales is included in your package price, whether your venue is in Cornwall, the Lake District or anywhere in between.

Who pays for the hotel on a long journey?

We do. When the drive is over two hours we stay in a hotel the night before and cover it, so it is not added to your total for a wedding in England or Wales.

What does a wedding abroad cost?

Travel and accommodation for a wedding abroad come to £450, and it is free on larger bookings. Destination weddings in Europe are fine with us.

What if there is traffic on the morning of the wedding?

When the drive is over two hours we stay in a hotel the night before, so traffic cannot affect us. When we travel up on the morning itself, we leave with a huge buffer on the expectation that we might run into traffic, and it has never failed us yet.

Will you travel to a venue you have never been to?

Yes. Most couples who book us marry at a venue we have never photographed. On request we send sample galleries or films from your venue, and on the morning of the wedding we look around the venue, indoor spaces included.

How much do your wedding packages cost?

Our standard full-day packages start at £1,999 for photography, £1,999 for videography and £3,699 for photography and videography together, with travel across England and Wales included and a £120 deposit to secure your date.
