Bright Sight planning guide
How far in advance should you book your wedding photographer and videographer?
The safest time to book is as soon as you have your date and venue, but it is never too early or too late to ask. This guide explains how booking works with us, step by step.

The short answer
As soon as you have your date and venue is the safest time, because a date can only be held for one couple. There is no wrong moment to ask, though. An enquiry is quick to answer, and if your date is close, send it anyway and we will check.
With us, an enquiry does not reserve your date. A £120 deposit does, and it holds the date exclusively for you.
Why earlier is easier
Once your deposit is paid, your date is held for you alone, so you can plan the rest of your day without wondering. We photograph and film about 40 to 60 weddings a year together, so dates do get taken.
Booking earlier also gives you more time for the conversations that follow: the call before booking, your timeline and the planning call about a month before the wedding. It spreads the decisions out so none of them feels rushed.

How booking works, step by step
Send an enquiry with your date (or a season if it is not fixed yet), your venue if you have one and your email, using the form on any package page. We reply within a few hours, and we check the date first.
From there you can have a call with us, usually about 15 minutes, or book straight in. A non-refundable £120 deposit holds your date exclusively, and you receive a receipt after each payment. The balance is due one month before the wedding.
If you book the photo and video team, it is one agreement, one deposit, one planning call and one timeline.
If your date or venue is not fixed yet
You can still enquire. Tell us the season you are considering and we will talk it through, then send your date as soon as you have it and we will confirm availability.
If you are choosing between venues, tell us. On request we can send sample galleries or films from your venue, so you can see how it looks before you decide.
If your wedding is soon
Send an enquiry anyway. Give us your date and venue, and we will reply within a few hours with availability. It is always worth asking.
What happens between booking and the wedding
After booking you are welcome to email or message us on Instagram whenever you have questions. About a month before the wedding, or whenever you have had your final venue meeting, we have a planning call to go over the firm details: your venue layout and any officiant rules, how to cover the morning, where family photographs will happen and anything special such as a first look, a reading or a surprise.
We also check sunset, light and tide times in advance from the desk. Our planning checklist lists the details to have ready, and our timeline guide shows how a day fits together.

If you are still deciding
While you decide, watch complete galleries and films from real weddings, and ask every photographer and videographer the same questions. Our questions to ask a wedding photographer guide has a list, and our guide to what a wedding photographer and videographer costs explains what each package includes.
When you are ready, send an enquiry with your date and venue. An enquiry does not reserve your date; the £120 deposit does, once you are happy to go ahead.
Questions couples ask
How far in advance should you book a wedding photographer?
As soon as you have your date and venue is the safest time, because a date can only be held for one couple. It is also worth asking if your wedding is closer: we check availability and reply within a few hours.
Does an enquiry reserve my date?
No. Sending an enquiry does not reserve your date. A non-refundable £120 deposit secures it and holds it exclusively for you.
How much is the deposit and when do I pay the balance?
The deposit is £120 and non-refundable. The balance is due one month before the wedding, and you receive a receipt after each payment.

Yes. If your date is not fixed, tell us the season you are considering and we will talk it through. Send your date and venue once you have them and we will confirm availability.
How quickly will you reply to an enquiry?
We reply within a few hours, check your date and then offer a call, or you can book straight in.
