Bright Sight planning guide

Do you need a second photographer or videographer at your wedding?

A second photographer or videographer is optional, and we cover most weddings with the core team. Extra coverage helps in a few situations. This guide explains when, what it costs and how to decide.

The short answer

Usually not. A second photographer or videographer is optional, and we cover most weddings with the core team. Extra coverage can be useful for preparations in separate locations, a large guest list or events happening at the same time.

If you are not sure, tell us your plans. We will help you decide using your actual day, not a rule of thumb.

What your core team already covers

A photography-only booking is one professional photographer, and a videography-only booking is one professional videographer. If you book the photo and video team, there are two of us, each capturing a different medium and often sharing angles. Coverage runs continuously from the start time you choose, usually about two and a half hours before the ceremony.

When the morning is split between two places, the team moves together, splitting our time as a team. Groom preparation typically takes about 15 minutes, so the morning keeps moving. We talk through how to cover it on your call.

When a second photographer or videographer helps

Preparations in separate locations. If you and your partner are getting ready in different places at the same time, a second photographer or videographer covers both at once.

A large guest list. With many guests, extra coverage means more of them, and more reactions, are photographed or filmed as they happen.

Events at the same time. If two parts of your day overlap, a second person can be in both.

When your core team is enough

For many weddings it is. If you are getting ready close together, your guest list is moderate and the day follows one clear path from ceremony to reception, the core team covers it well. That is how we cover most weddings.

A second person adds coverage, not hours. If your priority is more time on the day, longer coverage is the better fit, and our guide to how many hours of wedding photography you need shows how to work it out.

What a second photographer or videographer adds

More moments covered at once. A second photographer covers more of the day in parallel, so reactions, details and groups are photographed while other moments are happening. A second videographer adds more coverage for the film in the same way.

For film, our main camera angles are managed personally, and a second angle may be added during the ceremony. Everything is edited in-house to one shared look, so extra coverage blends into the same gallery or film.

What it costs

Adding a second photographer to a photography package is £499, and adding a second videographer to a videography package is £599. Our Platinum photography package includes a second photographer and our Platinum videography package includes a second videographer, alongside longer coverage and more keepsakes. Every price is in our guide to what a wedding photographer and videographer costs.

If you book the photo and video team and think extra coverage would help, tell us your plans and we will talk it through.

How to decide

Write down your timeline in two columns: where each of you is getting ready, and what is happening at the same time. If the columns show two things at once, extra coverage is worth a conversation. If your day follows one path, the core team is likely to be enough.

Bring your timeline to the call before you book (usually about 15 minutes) or to the planning call about a month before the wedding. When you are ready, send an enquiry with your date and venue, and we will reply within a few hours. An enquiry does not reserve your date; the £120 deposit does, once you are happy to go ahead. Our guide to booking a photographer and videographer together explains how one team works.
